"So quite, relaxing nice place."
"Great little boat ride to the island. Get tix at the museum. Our boat captain Dean Scarborough was awesome. Gave us some history, short stories and great recommendations. We had a fun day walking around the island and taking pics. We spent about 2 1/2 hours on the island."
"I happened to visit on a rare day with free water taxi rides to the island which was neat. There were representatives from the county on the island providing various interpretive programs including an osprey nest viewing (from afar with a monocular), and a table with some native and non-native insects found locally and a couple people talking about them. The park is co-managed by the state of Maryland, St. Mary's County, and "The 100." They have worked collaboratively to take good care of the island. "The 100" seem a bit pretentious and overly proud of the fact that their families were "first" to inhabit Maryland, but I didn't have any interaction with them so I can't comment on whether or not they are as dubious as they seem. Overall, the island is a great place to visit for a day. Bring water and sunscreen and enjoy walking through the grounds, visiting the lighthouse, and ringing the bell."
"A great state park to visit! The history is so cool to learn about but the natural beauty is awesome too. The island is flat and easy to navigate. There are a few cut throughs that are not marked on the map where you can be walking through the forest and brambles. It would be a great spot for a family picnic. I'll definitely be back. The water taxi does not run on a regular schedule so just call the number to arrange when you're leaving and returning. There is full cell signal on the island."
"Awesome day trip. Spectacular views, and historical landmarks. We took the Water Taxi II from the museum to the island. We stayed on the island for 2 hours, went exploring, swam, and had a picnic lunch before our return. Highly recommend."
