Reviews of American Chestnut Land Trust
"Such a nice hike on a snowy day. Just took the blue trail to the bay. The view was cloudy but looks like it would be fantastic on a clear day."
"Stopped by today for the 35th Anniversary Celebration and Volksmarch. The Holly Hill trail is a true gem! It can be challenging on the steeper hills and steps for those with mobility issues, but for your average hiker, it should not be a problem. I was unaware of the incredible conservation efforts by ACLT. I experienced interaction with the wonderful staff who were able to answer my questions and guide me in the right direction. I could sense the dedication of all in involved in the mission set forth by the ACLT. I look forward actively participating in the efforts of land conservation with the ACLT in the future! To everyone involved in today’s celebration, great work! I loved the band!"
"This place is so great! I grew up and continue to live here in Calvert County (MD), but somehow never heard about the ACLT until this year (even though it was formed in the 80s). I would always find beautiful running and walking trails when I would go on work trips to Washington state or Texas, or wherever, but I always felt like I was deprived of them here at home. But after learning about the ACLT about a month ago, I was able to go with some friends recently and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. Everything was beautiful, and it wasn't too difficult or too easy (just right). I've only been able to do one of the trails, but will definitely be back to try some others in the near future. I'm glad I don't feel like I have to go on a work trip to find a great trail any longer. Get out there and enjoy a hike! :)"
"Great hiking trails. Some marked better than others. The pink North/south trail had some steep hills. The south trail head has a bathroom and a helpful map. There is a neat raft you have to use to cross a river too!"
"A wonderful day hike option. Was able to hike here for about 2 hours with my 9-year-old son, primarily sticking to the purple trail. We were delighted to find a bunch of little surprises along the way, including a Huckleberry Finn style raft that you can pull yourself from one bank to the other on. Stunning views along the Parkers River. Easy, free parking with two portable restrooms right when you get out of your car. There are paper maps by the trail or you can download one to your phone. Even without a map, all trails are color marked very easily. The only thing to be aware of... Please bring bug spray! On the last half of our hike, we were almost carried off by mosquitoes as we were close to the water and they stuck with us even as we hiked away from the water. So just know this when you come! Most of the trails are fully shaded with lots of wildlife along the way! Would definitely recommend!"
