Managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Franklin Point State Park has limited parking available off Dent Road. Future plans include developing a soft launch and small day-use area for non-motorized vessels. The park is gated with a combination lock, and visitors must enter their name and email address to receive the current lock numbers.
The park is a partnership between the Maryland Park Service and the West/Rhode Riverkeeper staff, who work to improve access to the waterfront property. The park may be closed or access restricted for operational, maintenance, or safety reasons. Visitors are encouraged to check tide charts before visiting, as the water access can be affected by low tides.
In addition to its natural beauty, Franklin Point State Park is committed to protecting the environment and resources of Maryland. The park supports the Department of Natural Resources' mission of securing a sustainable future for the state's natural resources. "The ticks are no joke. If you insist on walking the trail, wear long pants and long sleeved shirt and don't forget tick spray. However, that isn't why I rated this one star. It got one star because the trails are horribly overgrown and not marked well. And because of all that we couldn't get far enough to see all of the beautiful area."
"Beautiful State Park! Well maintained trails that go in an awesome loop. Great water views with lots of birds and many different species of trees. I've read a few of the other reviews of this park that appear to be written by those that don't go outside much. This park is awesome, be prepared and enjoy!"
"A nice walk, but trails narrow and don't go in a circle. No access or view of the Bay, but there is a small outcropping where you can see the lake. Hard to navigate, no signage to show where you're going. Could not find the small building or bench, not convinced they exist. Kept hearing voices even though I was alone."
"A great park, trails are well blazed and the water views are very nice. Very muddy in spots, branches/wood planks have been put down to get over the worst of it. Look for a swan or two on the water!"
"Be careful lots and lots of ticks! I wore spray and still found one on my body. I had to dig twenty off my doggies. Please protect them there!"
