"I must say Mr. Oliver is quite a salesman. I entered the restaurant as a first time customer and as I browsed the menu, I was sold on the soup that was prepared for the day. I agreed to sit in the restaurant and try the soup and whatever else I decided on, I would take out. The soup was brought out to me and on the plate that the bowl was on was a strand of hair. I was quite turned off by this. As I sat there contemplating whether I'll taste this soup that Mr. Oliver raved about there it was, another strand of hair on the table. I was so disappointed and grossed out but still tried the soup. The soup was tasteless and bland and from the looks of things, thrown together. As a child of Caribbean parents, one of which is Jamaican, I am aware of what Jamaican food should taste like. Also, being originally from NJ where there are Jamaican restaurants all over, my expectations were high. There were chicken patties with coco bread being advertised however, no chicken patties available because "it's not a popular item." Even with all the disappointments, I still decided to support the business and got an oxtail dinner to go. I wasn't asked about the size and was given a large for about $30. I got home and opened the oxtail dinner to find 4 pieces of oxtail swimming in oil, not gravy, and the cabbage looked old as if it was leftovers for a few days. I tasted the oxtail despite the horrible presentation and meat smelled raw as if it wasn't properly cleaned or cleaned at all. Also, it was bland... no seasoning whatsoever and tough to say the least. I can tell it was thrown together. Who's tastebuds is Mobay Restaurant trying to cater to??? THIS IS NOT AUTHENTIC JAMAICAN FOOD... and should not be advertised as such. Please clean the meat and season it and maybe try cooking the oxtail in a pressure cooker from the night before. I was totally disappointed as I threw out a $30 oxtail dinner without barely touching it. And no gravy on the rice and peas?!?! Oh man!! First and last visit of course. Too overpriced and not worth the money."
"I've been longing for good Jamaican cuisine and I found Mobay online. I made the drive to there, well worth it. Their Curry Goat was very good, their Rice and Peas very good, and their Jerk Chicken was awesome!! If you live in Chambersburg make the trip, it is worth the drive."
"Very overpriced. Paid close to $40 for curry goat cabbage rice and peas and mac and cheese. Got a regular sized everfresh fruit punch. The fruit punch was $5.30. Typically costs a dollar and some change at the gas station. The curry goat was a small portion of mostly bones and when I got home 5 mins away the food was cold. Im all about supporting minority businesses but this was robbery. I'm not going back."
"Way overpriced. I ordered a medium oxtail plate for $20 and only got two oxtail. TWO! The oxtail was tough and salty. Too much browning. The macaroni and cheese was dry and had no cheese. I added cheese and seasoning to it when I got home. The beef Pattie’s were cold and not fresh. And lastly, the server did not use separate serving spoons to fix my plate. She used the same spoon for each entree. I have Southern and Caribbean roots so I know how these foods are supposed to taste. I’ll give a star for each oxtail I received! Overall, today was my first and last time visiting this restaurant."
