"I've been coming here over the last 10 years. It had a history of being one of the best craft beer bars in Winchester, which was my primary reason for coming every week. It really took a down turn when Shane left who did a lot of ordering of their draft list. He found some amazing beers to pour, and the draft list was constantly being updated, keeping me to return every week. Rumor was he left because the owners at the time wasn't happy with profit margin per draft pour. Yes, they were expensive beers, yet it didn't matter to me, he once told me "if you need to ask the price per pint on a beer, this isn't the bar for you.". It was worth everything I paid for. And they had an amazing "kick the keg" night weekly, where one or two of these kegs were significantly marked down on draft, as a $2 Tuesday. After Shane left, the draft list was still trying to stay craft, just on the bottom tier shelf end, which was fine, they still had an amazing happy hour. Sadly, the rumor today is the new owners / management completely removed their happy hour, and brought in Macro beers, with 2-3 "craft beers". The simplified draft menu is garbage. It's Guinness, and everything you can buy at the grocery store, for $7 a pint. The business that prided itself on being the best craft beer bar in Winchester, is nothing more than an Applebee's now, that caters to tourism on the walking mall. I will sadly never return until management brings back the Union Jack of the past. There is nothing special about this place anymore. The original craft beer bar atmosphere is dead."
"One of the best meals we've ever had. For appetizers we got the soda bread and the pretzels and cheese. It was SO much. The Pretzels and cheese alone is enough for 4 people. Wow it was delicious. Entrées were Patty Melt, and Fish and Chips. They weren't joking, the fish and chips is mind blowing. Was so good we got one to go for tomorrow LOL.The only thing I'd change about this place is the seating. Definitely in need of a bigger place it is a tight space. Rebecca was our waitress, ASK FOR HER! She was quick on refills and so nice!"
"Amateur hour in this place. Bartender is entertaining his friends (all 3 of em). Did not get acknowledged at bar for a very very long time, even though he walked by several times. Was not busy enough to justify that service. Airhead bartender threw out customers drinks when they went to smoke, forgot most everything anyone asked him for and is not a good face for a business. I loved the decor and insides and was looking forward to fish and chips, but went down the street and found good service. Drinks are high for well whiskey, but maybe thats the locale"
"Edit: We ate here Thursday and they no longer do the Happy Hour appetizers. Their Happy Hour beers are also very limited now. The staff were not all on the same page regarding the restaurant changes, telling us different things. They also have a smaller menu now it seemed. I considered dropping a star for these reasons but the food that we ordered off the regular priced menu (King Charles & Fit Bird sandwiches) were very good and seemed to be homemade, it is just a bit pricey now. My husband and I love Union Jack! We are from out of town so we don’t get to go often but each time that we have, it has been great. We love to go on Thursdays when they have all day Happy Hour. We get the discount drafts and half priced appetizers. Our go-to apps are the spinach dip with tortilla chips, the Buffalo Mac and cheese, and the loaded fries (chips). All three taste homemade and we have never been disappointed with them or the tap list. The service is usually great (depending on which server you get and how crowded the restaurant is) but we definitely have a preferred server. We love the pub atmosphere!"
"Lots of great restaurants on the Old Town Winchester road. This one has a British theme (hense the name) and has excellent food and service. We only had appetizers but they were delicious (buffalo Mac and cheese and sliders with chips). Their beef is locally sourced and you can tell: juicy and full of flavor. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy! Will definitely be coming back."
