Patuxent River State Park
About the Business
Patuxent River State Park, located at 23222 Georgia Avenue in Brookeville, Maryland, is a beautiful natural area spanning 6,700 acres in Howard and Montgomery counties. This park, managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, offers a variety of recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding.
Visitors can enjoy the catch and release trout stream, designated hunting areas, and a network of unmarked hiking and equestrian trails. While the park does not rent horses, visitors are welcome to bring their own for a scenic ride through the park's stunning landscapes.
Please note that some trails in the park are unofficial "social" trails, created over the years by trail users, wildlife, and volunteers. These trails are not maintained by park staff, so visitors should use them at their own risk. Plans are in place to establish an official trail system to replace these social trails in the future.
In addition to recreational activities, Patuxent River State Park also supports agriculture in the area. The park leases out lands with prime agricultural soils to interested farmers for short-term agricultural use. This helps maintain the park's open spaces and provides locally sourced food for nearby communities.
If you are interested in farming at Patuxent River State Park, you can submit a bid for leasing one of the agricultural properties available. The Maryland Park Service is dedicated to promoting the management of natural and cultural resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
Overall, Patuxent River State Park offers a peaceful retreat into nature, with opportunities for outdoor recreation, farming, and conservation. Visit the park's Visitor Center and Nature Center to learn more about the park's history and natural resources.

Reviews
"Really nice park. Picnic tables, benches, ample parking, nice trails, and composting(?) toilets. Park office was not open on a Sunday, at least not in January. Easy access to Patuxent River. Enjoyed our short hike and visit."
"Great, easy hike with well marked, well maintained trails. Will definitely need to go back non-winter."
"Great quiet trails with abandoned buildings to explore. Trickling water and chirping birds."
"Great shaded trail, but no viewpoints along the 3.5 mile loop. Blue and white mini loops are less well maintained but still very approachable. Flat nature trail without any steep in/decline or rock scrambling. A couple of SMALL water crossings. The trail was pretty dry despite it having rained recently. Watch for horse poop on the trail as this is a horse friendly trail! There is a single stall restroom available at the start of the trail and a picnic area near the historic house."
"The reason for the visit was to get out of the city for a moment. The walk was on a dirt path, this was refreshing. The old building was still in perfect condition. I enjoyed my long nature walk with my dog. On our walk we realized there were horse trails too!"
