Reviews of C&O Canal Lock 30
"Nice path for biking, but not much else to do. There is also a picnic area with a couple grills and a campground nearby."
"Nice, flat place to walk, run, or bike. The town of Brunswick is pretty cool to stop for lunch, and the heritage museum has a lot of history on the town, railroad, and it adjoins the NPS office for the C&O canal Brunswick location."
"My Friends. I am here to talk about tubing since I could not find any reviews myself. If you are planning to go tubing this is how we did it. First C&O Canal Lock 29 will be your pull-out spot. Leave 1 or 2 cars here and make sure that person keeps their key with them. Parking isnt too bad. If you drive closer to the boat ramp it will most likely be full but as you are just arriving to the location you can find some spots. We arrived at 1030am and had no issues finding 1 parking spot. What you want to do next is get into 1-2 cars and head over to C&O Canal Lock 30. It took 11-14 minutes to get there. When you arrive you will want to look for the Brunswick Boat Ramp which is at C&O Canal Lock 30. When you first arrive, the ramp will be on your right. Underneath the bridge basically. Find the boat ramp and if you are lucky find a parking spot. Otherwise just inflate all your tubes there and park your car in the parking lot you just passed on the way to the boat ramp. Once tubes are ready you must get into the water and walk just a bit until you get to the actual Potomac River. Its a 4.1 mile long trip down. Try to stay somewhat in the middle. It should take between 4-5 hours. At 2.1 miles the water got very still and I would push the group together (get some strings and make sure all of you are locked together from the start). Bring water for sure and please keep trash in the cooler. You can buy a cooler float for $10 at walmart that holds up to 90lbs. There will be some rocks so watch your butts. Gentlemen had to take turns moving the group out of incoming big rocks or moving group towards the middle since the river kept pushing us towards the sides. Its very easy to move the group but be careful and wear water shoes to protect your feet (5 below got them). Water can get shallow at SOME points and quickly get rocky. Keep an eye on the map because the exit at Lock 29 is really small. Stay on the left side as you get closed. We over shot and had to peddle back until we could feel some rocks to pull ourselves back. If you have a water proof bag then perfect! Remember you need your keys to drive yourselves back to Lock 30. One of our members left the keys. Uber $100. Lyft $300. We instead asked a group we recognized from earlier to take us back up. I hope this helps! The more rain from previous days the better. If there has not been rain in a while just know it may take even longer. Be prepared to have volunteers to push the group little by little."
"Absolutely enjoyed walking in this area. Bathroom is located near the lock. Several picnic tables and charcoal BBQ pits in a nice green grassy area. Plenty of parking and not as crowded as the Point Of Rocks parking area a few miles away."
"It was a bit colder in the morning mid 40's. The trail looked emptier, which is not a bad thing. Did my usual 40 mile ride with 4 of my friends. As always the trail does not dissapoint. I loved the shadier areas of the trail today. The sun through the leaves and trees give the trail a mystic quality. There are lots of leaves on the road. Make sure to check the traction of your tires when speeding off."
