Trail Inn Lodging & Campground

"Everything about this experience was precious. First, I called from Cumberland at dinner time looking to camp at the end of a 103 mile day of biking on the C&O/GAP, and the owner on the phone was a bit hard to understand, and I thought maybe it was just a rural accent (and I'm from a rural area, just in a different state) but later he told me he'd had a bit too much to drink. Anyway, he told me "We're on top of a mountain" and he didn't think I'd make it up there before dark. "You'd better hustle!" he said. So hustle I did (after housing a burger and crab/veggie soup) and made it up to Frostburg at dusk (take that!)...and then had to bike up these insane switchbacks to the actual town, so technically it was dark when I arrived, only to be greeted by insane wooden ramps up to the campsites above the inn. And the terraced campsites aren't quiiiiite level, but still okay. The owner in-person is a fun guy and quite encouraging of insane bicyclists...also, bold move patting me on my soaking sweaty back! All of that said, $15 for a campsite where no one would bug me, plus a hot shower with soap and towels provided is one of the best deals I've ever seen. All of the other pieces made this total bike-trip gold. I would aim to stay here again just for the crazy wooden ramps! Also, in the distance I could hear cheering from a local high school soccer game, and teenagers revving their jacked up pickup truck engines through town. Lovely small town Maryland experience! Would have been five stars, but the picnic table at my campsite had been stepped on by Godzilla and had collapsed."

"3 long days of riding from DC. Stopped here for 2 nights and had a wonderful stay. Stayed in the bunk house, great break from my tent. Will definitely stay agin."

"We rode the scenic railroad from Cumberland to Frostburg. When we got off the train, The Trail Inn was right across the road. We ordered cheeseburgers, chips, canned soda and hand dipped ice cream. Friendly service and a serviceable meal for about $24 for 2 people. Can’t beat the convenience, especially if you can’t do lots of stairs required to reach the rest of the restaurants in town."

"I used the campground twice while hiking the GAP. Locals are awesome and very friendly. And the food is good. Perfect local off the trail. Will definitely be back again."

"I wanna say thank you so much to the gentleman that was running the food stand outside . I have major back and shoulder issue and walked up the hill into Frostburg. Thinking I would be fine I became extremely overheated. I asked the gentleman running it for the coldest water he had and he asked if I was OK I just said really overheated. He then handed me probably the coldest ice water that I have ever had which was God sent . Thank you so much for your help it helped so much . That's something my wife and me will never forget the simple kindness of one person . I can't say it enough thank you"
