"It was a great experience staying at Canaan Valley resort. Especially we really appreciated the EV charging stations. My friend and I drove Model X and Rivian from Fairfax VA. Without Canaan Valley, this snowboard trip to TM would have been impossible. They have four Tesla and one J 1772 charger. I brought a tesla to J 1772 charger in case someone takes the only J 1772 charger. Indeed, F150 EV took that J1772 charger one night. I was able to use the last Tesla charger spot. Our kids also enjoyed the indoor pool with a hot tub so much. We will probably visit here multiple times for this season."
"We visited the resort many times over the past two decades, being an excellent stop on our motorcycles trips in the summer, and as a hiking base in the winter. Unfortunately, the food options there are going downhill since COVID and especially in the past year or so. The lounge and restaurant are served by the same kitchen and there is no concept of healthy food, only creamy, oily, and/or boring. Sometimes they forget ingredients listed on the menu, and it was a challenge to get warm enough soup in December, which defeats the purpose. The Seasons Cafe opens only at 8am, which defeats the purpose of a dedicated coffee place, and the variety is pathetic. It was not always this way, and there are not many other options around."
"We adore Canaan Valley State Park. We’ve been coming for short weekend getaways from DC for 12 years and are always amazed by how nice the state park facilities are and how gorgeous the landscape is. The wetlands and conifer forest make it feel so much more northern than it actually is. It’s a must visit for dc residents looking for a quick getaway."
"Written from an RVer’s perspective. Canaan Resort Campground is an well run and laid out State run RV site. The older section has mostly shady sites with tall oaks. Spacing is generous with variations between pull-in and back-in parking. The new section has primarily sunny sites with good views of the mountains. As of June 2023 the sewer hook-ups on the new section are not functional, so they’re water and electric only. A new bath house is available. There are several hiker’s trails that start close to the campground and are a great way to get out into nature. One of them leads to the main lodge if you’re up to the 1 1/2 mile hike. Restaurants and other recreation are available at the lodge. Campground personnel are friendly and the grounds are clean and maintained. Overall, rated excellent and it’s on our list of return visit campgrounds."
"Nice campground situated in the middle of Canaan Valley resort. Some sites are better than others in terms of levelness but are in the woods. They just finished a new loop in the open area which will be nice for views although more windy. New bath house opened up this weekend which was a big improvement over older bathhouse. Has individual showers you access from the outside. Overall great launching point for exploring the valley or dolly sodds wilderness. Loosing a star because it’s not perfect, electrical boxes are awkward, some sites not at all level, facilities are limited, don’t use bear proof trash cans, and price is $50 so I expected a bit more. But in the end this campground brings folks back year over year and has a better view than black water state park in my opinion. We also swam two days in the resort pool which you get access for $7. Enjoyed buffet meal at lodge too which is a nice option if it’s raining and you don’t want to cook."
