Reviews of State Auto Insurance Companies
"I wish I could give negative stars. Another garbage insurance. Once you are in trouble, they will work hard so that they do not have to pay for your damages. Don't walk.... run away from this insurance."
"The absolute worse insurance company ever the claims manager in Columbus, Ohio is very unprofessional she will give you the run around for months and never return calls or respond to emails it's sickening and when I asked to talk to corporate to make a complaint they would not give me a number"
"EDIT: The agent we personally dealt with for the first year, along with his two assistants, have since disappeared with no notice. Now we deal with whatever person answers the generic phone number. They do not answer emails when we can't get someone on that generic phone number. They switched out the company who makes the gadget that monitors driving for discounts, and State Auto can't answer a single question but insteads pawns us off on them -- but both the original monitoring company and the replacement company say they won't explain HOW the scores are calculated because it's "proprietary information", so they score us drivers without providing any guidelines, so it's a game we're forced to play without knowing any rules. We live in a rural area with only one road out, and this gadget rates our road as 2-3 out of 5 stars; what are we supposed to do, drive through the cornfield? And now, they've sold the company and our policies to Safeco. Luckily, we're selling the house in a few months, won't need the homeowner's policy, and will be looking for other auto insurance. What started off the first year as exceptional service devolved into being ignored, now being sold off. The only reason I've not lowered it to 1 star is that due to my exceptional driving and in spite of the gadget monitors, I have 50% off auto insurance. If State Auto exists in any form after this, I do NOT recommend them. Just contracted for insurance for two autos and a new home, and each State Auto rep has been wonderful to deal with: professional, friendly, efficient, and they've followed through on everything they've promised - even called ME when their phones disconnected us, didn't just wait for me to call back. The premium is MUCH lower than my previous carrier, and every thing mentioned is the polar opposite of how I was treated by the other company. Obviously haven't filed a claim yet, and hope never to do so, but so far I highly recommend State Auto!"
"I have probably written 2 negative reviews in my entire life but this situation requires one. Won't get into details but the company used a bait and switch where they told me what to do and then denied the claim because I did what they told me to do.. If you have a similar experience with State Auto, def contact your state department of insurance and file a complaint. It took me 2+ months to get my car repaired."
"Absolute horrible customer service, going on three weeks. The claims agent will not return phone calls or texts. And it would seem that they have no idea what they’re doing, based off of a picture that was sent to them they’re claiming at $1600 worth of damage when in fact, it’s a total loss. The car has a smashed frame and I can’t get anybody to get back to me. As you can see from the picture posted the frame of my Jeep Wrangler is crumpled. And can only be repaired by replacing the whole frame."
