"I love this 70 mile long hiking trail in the heart of Pennsylvania. All the shelter areas have 5 tent camping locations, 5 Adirondack shelters, firewood stacked and free for use right there, restrooms and water pumps. There are 9 sections to this trail if you're considering a section hike. I have done 5 sections, out and back, in this order: 1. Ohiopyle (Southern terminus) heading North to Ohiopyle Shelters (6 miles) return South. 2. Rt 653 Parking heading North to Grindle Ridge Shelters (6 miles) return South. 3. Rt 31 Parking heading North to Turnpike Shelters (7 miles) return South. 4. Rt 56 (Northern terminus) heading South to Rt 56 Shelters (6 miles) return North. 5. Rt 271 Parking heading North to Rt 56 Shelters (8 miles) return South. There are 4 sections left to complete an entire section hike, with no order or priority set, yet: 1. Rt 30 Parking heading North to Rt 271 Shelter Area (11 miles) return South. 2. Rt 30 Parking heading South to Turnpike Shelter Area (8 miles) return North. 3. Rt 31 Parking heading South to Grindle Ridge Shelter Area (8 miles) return North. 4. Rt 653 Parking heading South to Ohio Pyle Shelter Area (13 miles) return North."
"This is an awesome hiking trail with lots of cool foliage and scenery. Rattlesnakes can be found along the paths on occasion but I love that sort of thing. It can be a quite peaceful hike and not hear a sound aside from the wind blowing through the trees or wildlife going about daily activity."
"One of the better scenic trails close to Pittsburgh. Great for day hikes or camping. The Adirondacks at the overnight spots as well kept & very cozy if you don't want to sleep in your tent. Make sure you secure you food/cookware hang it, the mice are like mighty mouse one tried to walk off with our cookware."
