Reviews of Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
"This was a great visit. I visited twice and this was the first time I went inside. The kids enjoyed the open space outside to run, play and explore, while inside was filled with fun paintings, art pieces and a library. Admission is free, but I believe they have some kind of membership"
"I’m such a fan of the VMFA. I have a fond memory of seeing an impressionist exhibit as a high school student here, and it was the first time I realized I enjoyed art. I’m always impressed with the exhibits they manage to secure, and I never leave feeling disappointed. I would recommend getting the membership - it’s just not that expensive and if you see a few exhibits and use their parking garage, the membership easily pays for itself. I went to see an exhibit there last year and was lucky enough to stumble across a fashion show! Loved the energy and the artistry. Check their upcoming events - I feel like they’re always adding something new to the calendar. I wish I had more photos to add…I need to dig some up! It’s a beautiful building and they transform the space to enhance each exhibit."
"We went for it first visit and were excited to see works from Matisse, John Singer Sargent. It was wheelchair friendly, high quality art work from a high caliber art museum. It highlighted different artists from the Cubist, Impressionist and The Gilded Age. We will be back, we couldn't complete the museum in one visit. The visit is free, so don't worry about buying tickets. There is a cafe and coat check."
"What a beautiful experience!!! The art exhibits were well placed and easy to navigate. The museum environment in was well balanced, not crowded in any areas. I even had lunch in the Cafe. I've never had a bad meal in this place. The food is always so exquisite, fresh, and innovative. The staff was friendly & very attentive to my needs and they really go above and beyond to ensure you enjoyed your meal. I can't wait to go back."
"This is one of my favorite museums (and I grew up going to the Smithsonian Museums all the time)! I always visit the Faberge exhibit, it is exquisite! The museum also allows and encourages photography, so have fun taking photos! There is also a nice restaurant and cafe if you need food or a pick-me up. And there's plenty of seating in the cafe, but also outside. The grounds of the museum are also worth visiting on their own. There were plenty of people lounging in the grass, working on their laptops in the shade, etc... It looks like the perfect way to spend an afternoon in Richmond."
