"Very interesting place. We went here around Christmas. I loved the grounds, and home. However, just a few people were dressed in the time period of the home. No Christmas tree was up with gifts of days gone by. There is NO HANDICAP ACCESS FOR WHEELCHAIRS. Otherwise, the staff members were very helpful and carried my mother's wheelchair up the stairs without us asking. Very accommodating to my mother's and our needs."
"A day of history is always a learning experience and lots of fun. I miss the guided tours but the electronic media provides a lot of detailed information. Signage improvements would make it easier to find the mansion after exiting the visitor center, for entering and exiting the mansion, as well as figuring out which room to go to next. Maps would definitely help if you're planning to go to the waterfront."
"Very nice and relaxing place to take in history and wander around the grounds, look for sharks teeth on the shore. The grist mill is another great thing."
"Such a hidden treasure! We arrived on a Friday afternoon and literally had the entire mansion to ourselves (other than a couple docents and a security guard). This place has been restored wonderfully, with a good percentage of original furnishings and some authentic period pieces as well. It is a self-guided tour with a couple docents that are willing to answer questions, but I would highly recommend the small upcharge to get the audio tour. You can either use their device with earphones to listen to an audio recording that describes each point of interest in the mansion, or you can use your cell phone by scanning their QR code. I'd recommend making sure you bring a pair of earbuds with you."
"My wife and I stayed the night at the Astor house and had the Valentine's dinner here. We explored the grounds around the main house and they were beautiful. I put off exploring because when I usually come here I come for the beach and fossils but I finally got around to exploring the well maintained lands of this historic site. I would highly recommend a visit as the staff were super attentive and everything about our stay was perfect. Super clean rooms and amenities and the food provided by Densons Farm to Table was to die for. Again highly recommend a stay and/visit."
