"I had a negative experience there, specifically with one person, and not the entire business. Patricia Teal did our taxes in 2020 and she pulled a very sneaky move. When trying to decide if it would be more advantageous to itemize or not, she informed us that we’d get back more money if we itemized. So, because we were inexperienced and trusted that she would steer us straight, we listened to her advice. It wasn’t until I was checking out that I realized what she’d done. There was a higher cost to itemize (which she didn’t mention), and that meant we would actually “get back” LESS money than if we went standard. It wasn’t a huge difference, but it was the principle. I’m sure she was well aware of what she was doing, since this is her job. Please be forewarned. There are plenty of other decent tax consultants in La Plata. H&R Block overcharges too."

"She was very patient and made the process very easy. Since I am overseas it was tricky to get it done but she definitely made the process go smoothly for me."

"Lack of communication. If I had not called I would not have known that the tax pro was having technical issues on her end. No timeline was given. I was told they were completed but nothing was in the online portal and everything was showing as being in progress. When I called this morning another rep saw a note asked me some questions and completed the filing. I ended up paying a penalty for late filing which I felt I shouldn’t have had to pay as to how the returns were done this year."

"This is Stacy Budd. I can't say enough good things about my tax preparer Kenneth Mills. He was knowledgeable polite and very patient with me in figuring out what was wrong with my taxes until I was satisfied. But after that I was stunned as to the cost to prepare my taxes was $470. To do the exact same taxes last year at Jackson Hewitt was $152. I will NEVER use H&R Block again. What a rip off to hard working people especially in these hard times. Also my father-in-law who is 89 went to have his taxes done because of the stimulus payment. He did not realize the stimulus is tax free. All they had to do was to tell him he did not need to file taxes. Instead they took advantage of him and did his taxes and charged him. Stay away from H&R Block."
