"The parking lot can be tough to find in the dark, but the trail is nice. If you take a left on the main, it ends in about 1.5 miles. I've seen a number of bald eagles in that area. If you take a right you can go much further. It's a flat, easy trail."
"Nice spot to see some little-known history of Loudoun County, with the ruins of the Goose Creek Canal lock and the Kephart Bridge."
"A+. July 1, 2023. This is a hidden gem! We started at the Riverpoint Drive Trailhead, 43942 Riverpoint Dr, Leesburg, VA 20176. It has a small parking lot with a port-a-potty. We walked 4 miles to Selden Island and back. That was 8 miles and it took us 3+ hours. We didn't see any other port-a-potties along the way. The entire trail is completely covered with trees. There's no need for fair-skinned people to use sunscreen if you stay on the trail. The trail is well-marked with blue paint on trees. This first section of the trail is along the Goose Creek Canal. The trail is wide and seems a favorite place for local dog walkers. There is a kayak launch area a few hundred feet down the trail. Several families with fishing poles were there. You can wear shorts and T-shirts without worrying about brush and ticks. This is the best part of the trail in our opinion. The water is visible at all times, and you can enjoy the sight and sound of the river. The second section of the trail is where the canal meets the Potomac to what the map shows as Elizabeth Mills Riverfront Park, but the plaque says Bazil Newman Riverfront Park. We saw some people hauling coolers and portable tents at the end of this section. They must have parked at Bazil Newman Riverfront Park and they were headed to the water to spend the day. They were on the trail for only a very short section. The Lansdowne Resort was visible here. This stretch of the trail has the river to the north and a golf course to the south. The trail does not touch the golf course. The third section of the trail goes from Bazil Newman Riverfront Park to Bles Park, but we took it only as far as Selden Island, approximately 15 minutes shy of Bles Park. There is no access to this private island. The trail narrows very significantly, and you should definitely wear long pants and shirts if you don't want to worry about brush touching you. This was the least scenic portion of the trail, because you can see only a narrow, dull channel of water between the trail and Selden Island, which blocks your view of the wide Potomac. This portion of the trail shares 3 bridges with the golf course where the trail needs to cross 3 ravines. The trail comes out a few feet away from either end of the golf course bridges so there's very little overlap. The bridges have a blue paint mark to reassure you that you're still on the trial. The trail on either side of each bridge has blue paint on a tree near the trail opening to let you know where to get back on the trail."
"A very nice and established trail. There are some areas there the tall grass has somewhat overgrown the trail but it adds to the hike."
"Secluded gem! Tucked away in the neighborhood makes it easy to drive right past the entrance. The parking lot is very small, only 5-6 spots. It’s usually not very busy and offers a port a potty next to the entrance. The area is quiet and the trails are great with one portion being sandwiched between Goose Creek and an old/empty canal which went to Aldie at one point in time. There are a lot of deer which like to hang out right off of the trail. The trails are well maintained. If you walk south you’ll be treated to the sound of running water when Goose Creek is high after rain storms when the water is moving very quickly. There is great place to launch kayaks on a flat beach like area. Or if you’re kayaking up Goose Creek this is the perfect place to stop for a rest or to use the bathroom. Very scenic and just a short distance from where Goose Creek converges with the Potomac River. Even though this area is surrounded by houses it’s still very picturesque and full of nature. You could do some great bird watching here as we saw everything from several different types of large cranes to blue birds and cardinals."
