"The Center opens at 10am and is a recommended first stop for an introduction to this wildlife refuge. The park guides provided tips on best spots to see the wild ponies. They also advised on which beach areas were open during the plover nesting season. The center has informative dioramas that introduce visitors to the native wildlife and park conservation efforts. There is a large public parking lot by the center. Note there is a $10 daily fee for park entry."
"A great place to visit to learn about the wildlife, conservation, ponies, and history of the area. There's lots to see and experience for all ages. It's right across from the Assateague lighthouse, which is also worth checking out. Cute gift shop, too!"
"This serves as one of the two visitor centers in Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and is actually the first one that a visitor would come across as they enter the area. One can get guidance regarding which hiking trails can be undertaken, e.g. their level of difficulty and the like. The place has restrooms but unfortunately, they are not open for extended hours. The visitor center closes at 4 p.m. and the restrooms are also unavailable beyond those hours."
"This is the National Wildlife Refuge visitor center and not the National Park Services visitor center which is out at Toms Cove next to the beach. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Currently only open Thursday to Sunday 10am to 4pm. Nice educational exhibits inside and small shop for merchandise. Junior ranger programs for patches and flush toilets with sinks and water fountains. Also wildlife refuge stamps available for blue goose passport. They have the chincoteague stamp and the wallops island stamp."
"Friendly folks, spacey, kid friendly. The maps outside were helpful and lots of great info about wildlife. Our trails are one the the cheapest, most educational and healthy ways to explore the Commonwealth. I’m thankful to this facility and others like them who educate the community. I wish the gift shop was bigger but I got a lovely pixie and ornament. The horses were roaming around outside the building this morning—an unexpected treat!"
