"We have a great day spent with Everett going to Smith Island. It’s such a fascinating place with unique culture and history. Fun visiting Everett’s mom and her demonstration of the famous Smith Island cake. Having the cake to enjoy later was a great souvenir. Learning about the lives of the Watermen and how things haven’t changed much over the generations was a remarkable experience. "The sea was not at its most calm, but Captain Everett flawlessly navigated our three-hour tour; he's a veteran sailor. He narrated a wonderfully informative visit to each of Smith Island's three settlements sharing the culture, values, history and facts about the Water Men and their craft, including a stop at his father's Rhode's Point crab shanty where he demonstrated crabbing equipment and pots and described the troubled industry in detail. But exciting as all this was, it is not what truly distinguishes one's time with Everett.
