"We enjoyed the calm waters and wildlife on the river by SUP. Jim is very welcoming and gives great advice on anything kayak or SUP related. Highly recommend Chester River Kayak Adventures!"
"Had a great day paddling in rental kayaks from Jim. Gave us great directions where to paddle and possible sights we could see. Was very happy with the high quality kayaks and paddles available. Wasn't the typical Walmart kayaks many other rental places pass off. These were all touring kayaks and lightweight graphite paddles. Jim was a pleasure to talk to and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Rental cost was very reasonable and area we paddles was beautiful. Highly recommended."
"It pains me to write a negative review. Jim, the owner, is a very nice gentlemen and I think at one point this was a spectacular tour. However, we booked a half-day guided tour and were very disappointed. The website (being as dated as it is should have given us a clue) boasts different trips to choose from, but Jim doesn't have the staff to pull them off anymore. We weren't able to select which tour we wanted. Instead we left and returned from the public launch near his home at Spring Cove marina. Two-thirds of his kayaks were missing or had broken rudders. The kayaks were lacking a little love and care. Even a simple hose down to get grass clippings, bugs, and cob webs out of them would have helped. Several of the life jackets needed to be replaced as I'm sure those did not meet coast guard standards - not that you really need life jackets when kayaking in the shallow waters of Swan Creek. But, he had great paddles - light weight carbon fiber with shaped blades. The advertised "beach" stop near Humphreys point was a 10 ft by 2 ft patch of muddy land. There was no great way to get out and explore or enjoy the overgrown area, nor was there a good place to swim and enjoy the warm August water. And our email reminder that bottled water and high energy trail mix set some higher expectations than the one extra bottle of water that Jim had in his kayak. The "guided" portion of the tour was almost non-existent. Other than navigational directions, there was very little information shared with the group about where we were paddling, or what we were seeing. Some brief explanation of a duck blind, and three sentences of history regarding one of the farms we saw was about it - for those close enough to hear Jim. We would have had the same trip if we were given a laminated map and let loose on the kayaks. The scenery was beautiful. We weren't fortunate enough to see any of the bald eagles in the area, but we saw plenty of Osprey, Herons, ducks, and other birds. We had great weather, so we were able to enjoy the serenity of the area. Having done guided kayak, canoe, cycling, and hiking tours before, we had higher expectations. I wish Jim the best of luck in what is clearly a delayed retirement."
"We were not familiar with the area and wanted a guided tour, but there is a minimum of 4 people people. We were orientated to the river and the area we paddled in was very peaceful, but we had to go through an area with numerous powerboats going by. My fiancé was not comfortable paddling because his seat was not clipped in, so his back was aching. I guess my advice would be to look through all your boat options before launching."
"4 of us went on the 3 hour tour and had a great time. Jim, our guide and one of the owners, was a gracious and friendly host. We started w a quick and well-grounding "Kayaking 101" as 3 of us had limited experience. Once this was complete, Jim got us in the boats and on the water, offering pointers as necessary. Under his guidance, the whole group was able to master the basics before we had traveled 100 yards. Knowledgable about kayaking, the local waterways, the area's natural resources, and history, Jim provided a nice balance of entertaining stories and time to peacefully enjoy the beauty of the river. Highlights of our day included repeated sightings of a nesting pair of Bald Eagles flying close by and seeing Ospreys hunt on the river."
