"Kind of a strange mix... Very expensive and very high quality sushi, but cheap ramen bar atmosphere of the restaurant or area at all. For the cost and quality, it wants to be a restaurant you go to on a nice date, but I can't imagine how out of place you'd look in this restaurant dressed up. The place was very clean too, but all the chairs are uncomfortable. Just an odd restaurant."
"Matsutake is sort of a hidden gem, sitting in a converted fast-food restaurant in a small mall just off Reston Parkway. There are a number of decent restaurants in such locations and this is the only one where the designers have managed to completely banish the sterile fast food feel - it's a lovely place where you can relax and enjoy. As others have said the food is very good - although at the top end of my personal price range. The cocktail menu is particularly notable, consisting of truly unique drinks invented and whimsically named by the bartender. Don't let the goofy names dissuade you - they are excellent. And if you have ever wondered whether there's such a thing as Japanese craft beer, yes there is and they have several. My only quibble is that the owners seem spread a bit thin. Sometimes the bartender is not there on weekdays. Sometimes the service is wonderful and friendly, other times not so much. So consistency is the last box they have to check. Based on about a dozen visits they have far more good nights than bad nights, but at the relatively high price point this should not be a worry for the diner."
"Incredibly fresh food with generous portions. Highly recommend you check this spot out if you're looking for Japanese! Sushi, hibachi, and appetizers all exceeded my expectations. Also, if ordering hibachi plan for 2 people or prepare to get a Togo box."
"Great experience! The restaurant is clean, decorative and welcoming. Staff is very attentive and friendly. We were helped right away. The food was really delicious, fresh, and made to perfection. I’m most definitely coming back for more!"
"I went to Matsutake when they very first opened - second night or so. It was okay, but not great. Somewhat sloppy cutting of the fish. But!! We got takeout form there last weekend & it seems like they have their quality all sorted out. Although the roll with the cucumber was a bit awkward to eat it was *delicious* & I'd recommend it to someone looking for a lower-carb option for a roll. Sashimi was cleanly presented - a bit of a challenge when it's to-go - & the Yummy Crunchy appetizer was delightful. We'll be back!"
