Reviews of Midas
"I read all the negative reviews here but figured it was ok since I was only going in for something simple. At last moment I got lazy and made the mistake of adding safety inspection. Well, this place some how said my car needed $2k repair to pass inspection, I quickly got out of here. Guess how much repairs were needed for inspection when I brought the car into the dealership later? $0!!! Yep, the dealership, where they happily try to push you on dubious maintenance services, didn't think the car needs some major overhaul! Unbelievable how shaddy this place is. Believe all the negative reviews, STAY AWAY!!!"
"Went in for a safety inspection because it was the closest mechanic to my apartment, expecting to be in and out because my car drove fine and there were no warning lights on. I was told I needed $4000 in repairs to pass, all quote "absolutely necessary", including two quote "very dangerous" near-broken control arms, three out of four full shock assemblies, brake pads on two wheels and new rotors on all four. The manager on duty and his team tried to convince me to sign up for financing for 45 minutes ("we put the manager discount on, that's the cheapest it can get, everything is absolutely necessary, you don't even have to pay anything for three weeks, your wheels are about to fall off, we're surprised you even made it here", none of which sounded true) before they would put my wheels back on so I could go to work on time. I had to get a friend to call the store to get the manager to leave me alone and I was only then able to ask one of the other employees to put my wheels back so I could leave—I asked him about the danger of driving it to work and he said it was fine to drive ("just no long trips"), contrary to what the manager said. With a HUGE bill of $4000 hanging over my head, going to a different, local, well-reviewed mechanic shop and getting another safety inspection for a $90 second opinion was a no-brainer. They told me all I needed was two new rotors and pads, two strut assemblies, and new windshield wipers. Quote "absolutely nothing wrong" with the control arms or rear shocks, and that as long as the brakes weren't screaming (they weren't) there was no real danger at all in driving it before the repairs were made and the repairs were more for general safety than anything. Even better—I left with a bill half the size at a justifiable $2100, and after researching the part numbers both mechanics proposed/used, I found that the ones I got were better quality parts anyway. While the mechanics themselves at Midas are fast and efficient—the two wheels they removed were back on the car in less than five minutes, for what it's worth—the business side struck me as horribly dishonest and overpriced for poor-quality materials. I felt extremely taken advantage of—I would say they lied through their teeth, but high commissions or no, the manager didn't even have teeth to lie through. I will not be returning for even so much as filling my tires. Terrible experience all the way around. Please consider supporting local businesses instead, not huge chains built on coercing vulnerable people into overpriced financing plans."
"SCAM! DO NOT TRUST THIS MIDAS. I have a 2018 Honda Civic in great condition. I took my car here for a simple inspection. After waiting for four hours, I received two calls from the front of office staff. They stated that “They are unable to pass my car (the safety inspection) because I needed new breaks and rotors.” It did pass the emissions test. The bill was almost 1000 dollars!!! The only options they gave me were 1. drive away without the safety inspection sticker OR 2. replace my break pads and rotors for $800 to $1000. Even though they insisted it was not safe, I decided to leave and get a second opinion. When I told them my plan, they immediately changed their mind and gave me both inspection stickers needed. Recently (a month later), I just went to a trusted family mechanic an hour away, just in case. And they told me everything was great AND MY BRAKES WERE LIKE BRAND NEW AT 90%. It’s horrible that these people try to take advantage people especially around the holidays. They could really ruin someone’s life with an unexpected bill, especially if that family is struggling financially. BEWARE of this place. I will never go there again!!!!"
"I had driven my car three times since I had my tire replaced here before my tire blew out. It happened when I started going 50mph on the highway. I drove to the nearest exit and got myself a tow (they didn’t help with that, once towed they didn’t look at it wit next day). I was on the phone with someone who told me that, since it had only been a week, they cover it under warranty. I received a call in the following morning. Someone called to tell me I have to drop another $228 on one of their bum tires. I would not drop my money on their services. I went to my family’s mechanic for an actual tire change. They informed me that the tire they put on was years old and subject to weathering when not in use. I have the DOT and everything to prove it. I have not been able to keep contact with Midas as they have not contacted me back. I’m trying to get a refund since that’s the most I can hope for. I had to drive 4mi on a blowout ON A HIGHWAY. I’d sue this company for reckless endangerment over a tire if it wouldn’t cost the arm and leg I’ve given. Speaking with the “I’m as close to a manager as your gonna get” guy (I wish that was not a statement he gave me verbatim), made me feel all the more persistent on getting a refund. The guy told me I probably hit a pothole or hit a curb. None of the many parties I had to get involved had seen the full tire, myself included. It’s a blowout without any ifs, ands, or buts. Here’s the rundown: they put an old tire on my car, they accused me of reckless driving, they tried to extort another $228 (on top of the $228 I was charged a week prior), and worst of all: they don’t care. I wish they would."
"Stopped in during a lull in demand. Got my car’s headlight bulb replaced so quickly that I was shocked, and immediately asked for an oil change, which they delivered blindingly fast. Staff is super nice too. Impeccable experience"
