Reviews of Paulie Gee’s Soul City Slice Shop
"Paulie Gee's has been on my list for a while, and we finally stopped by for takeout this past Friday and had a great experience. I thought it was just an average pizza shop to do takeout, but take a look at the photos - we definitely want to come back to spend a night out here watching a game or hanging out at the bar. We ordered all slices for our first visit, 1 vegan sausage, 2 Mootz, 1 pepperoni, 1 special vodka sauce, 1 mushroom ; for 6 slices the total came to $27 and we had leftovers. My takeaway? I think their strengths are their square pies and they were all so good. I loved my special vodka sauce pizza - and the vegan sausage was so flavorful. Although I liked the mootz and the mushroom, the dough style of those triangle slices weren't my favorite - I like crispy thin crust - and that's just not their style here and that's okay. I'm sticking to all squares next time We stopped by around 8pm on a Friday and when we walked in there was no line, but by the time we were leaving the line was almost out the door but it moves quickly!"
"Update (November 2023): Revisited and ordered to-go a slice of the Vodka sauce pizza and the Freddy with pepperoni. New favorites! They were busy too and the guy taking orders was friendly and didn't seem overwhelmed. Always a go to spot for a quick bite when I'm in the area. (First Review): Cool spot to grab a slice or even a whole pie! I tried the Mootz which was really good and a slice of Pepperoni. I was satisfied with my experience and will be back soon to revisit!"
"Imho, the best pizza in Philly. I have several friends from nyc who say this is the only pizza they’ll get. Have had the square and the regular and they’re both phenomenal- but I prefer square!!! Thicker and the crust tastes so GOOD. Nothing can beat the old school cash register and the pool table inside!! If you haven’t been here you’re missing out!"
"Tried out Paulie Gee's on a Tuesday night before seeing a show nearby. Really cool spot - the vibes were electric but inviting and service was overall fast. There were more pizza options than I expected and the different varieties we tried were all excellent. Also appreciated the non-alcoholic drinks available and the full bar. Plus a pool table! Would come back for sure."
"If you like good pizza do yourself a favor and grab a slice. I went here with a few friends after checking out first Friday in Old City. It was a bit of a trek from where we were and all of us were feeling doubtful that it would be worth the walk. We unanimously agreed that it was worth every step. The thin crust was delicious and the thick crust (they call it a “Freddy”) was even better. My instant favorite spot for pizza in Philly. It’s kind of understated which translates to not being super crowded. There’s also a bar (we didn’t get any drinks) and it closes late (I think 2AM on the Friday we went). It’s got an old school vibe and the price was right, $3.75 for a thin crust slice and $5 for the thick crust. The thin crust sausage and the Freddy pepperoni were my two favorites. Check it out!"
