"Tom is amazing, fixed my mom’s check engine issue easily and fairly."
"Tom is very knowledgeable and kind. I got transmission work done and he took additional time to explained everything to me."
"After many calls to mechanics all around N.E.P.A., I kept hearing, “we don’t service Audi’s” over and over again. I was stuck, and didn’t know what to do. Someone told me about Sundown Transmissions, I didn’t find them online originally; probably because it’s about a 30-45 minute drive to the Pocono’s from me. (Scranton) I explained my issue to Tom (the owner), then asked him if he services Audi’s. He said, “yes, I’d be happy to take a look at it for you.” I drop it off, two days go by and I get a call from Tom, he said he started to look at my vehicle, some codes where coming back on his computer and it was telling him two cylinders where faulty. He told me what they cost and what was involved and I asked him if it would repair my issue. He said he didn’t know and he would have to test the cylinders to find out. I said ok, well I need to know what the problem is so we can fix this issue and have my car in driving condition again. He then proceeded to do more diagnostics. Testing the cylinders and checking fuses, checking for wear in the pan, ect. All of this is still diagnosing the problem. Tom calls me back the next day and says, the cylinders are ok, and they are reading the correct value on his multi-meter. He then goes on to tell me that he doesn’t have the CORRECT computer to diagnose Audi vehicles and cannot go any further, the computer he has is generic and won't read all of the information needed. He tells me he’s never felt the need to invest $1000 in buying the correct computer because he doesn’t do enough of these cars to justify the investment. Once again, I’m back to the drawing board and I have to find a Mechanic that actually works on Audi’s. I am in no way better off at this point than what I was when I first started with this place. On top off that, instead of his diagnostic fee which is $59.95, Tom want to charge me $300 for his labor in diagnosing the problem Plus the $75.00 for the computer that doesn’t work, and some transmission fluid he had to replace due to dropping the trans pan. This guy tells me I owe him $431.61 for his time. He says that he’s doing me a favor because he shaved off 2 hours of labor off he didn’t charge me for. Now I’m on the phone with an Audi mechanic, his diagnostic fee is $99.95, he tells me that if the other mechanic had the computer for Audi vehicles, he would have know the TCM was faulty the moment he plugged it in. BUT TOM DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT COMPUTER. So I go down and talk to Tom, explain everything I am writing here and say I don’t think it’s fair he is charging me regular hourly rates for a job that isn’t being repaired and he DOESN’T HAVE THE TOOLS TO DIAGNOSE. I was willing to pay his DIAGNOSTIC FEE + WHATEVER FLUID HE NEEDED TO REPLACE, TRYING TO FIND THE PROBLEM. With the correct computer to diagnose the problem, we wouldn't have wasted so much time trying to find the problem. (with out the correct tools for the job) I’m now stuck with a broken car, a worthless computer, $431.61 less money, the wrong transmission fluid and an entire week of my time being wasted by someone who initially claimed they can do the job! I will be filing a form with the BBB and magistrates office after I have to car repaired and a final bill from the right mechanic. On top off all of this, Tom didn't even replace the filter in the transmission when he opened the pan and replaced the fluid. For the life of me, I can't understand why someone that's been doing this for 30 years doesn't have the correct tools for the vehicles he claims to be able to service. I feel like he saw an opportunity to make a quick buck and took advantage of it. Update!!! Today is May 28, 2019. Took this car to Mistech Transmission in Scranton after it sitting for a few years. They charged me $200 to reconnect the sylenoid Tom did not connect properly. The car is running again with fresh transmission fluid, the first computer is still functional and I'm using it right now. I wasted so much time and money using Sundown transmissions. This guy needs to hang it in."
"He's a good and honest guy I had a problem with my truck not shifting into a higher gear I dropped it off in the morning and a few hours later he had it all fixed . I don't remember what the price was but I know it was very reasonable and good ."
"If you need a place to fix your transmission among other services this is the place. Tom is courteous and honest. He is reasonable and meets my expectations as far as not worrying about leaving my vehicles with him. Thanks Tom!"
