"It was a fall day, cold and most leaves were on the ground! Our first time to visit, I could just imagine how beautiful this place is all season! Rustic and historical! The trees, the river, the old houses and that quiet, peaceful feeling! We’ll definitely come back for the next seasons!"
"Interesting spot. Old canal town in NJ. Only about 2 signs explaining anything so some work needed on that. Some of the buildings are in decent shape and some look pretty sad. Any restoration is not obvious. That said, the event venue looks nice. Ample parking and no entry fee."
"Awesome State Park with a historic village and canals. Make sure to stop in the visitors center and get the background of the village and a map. There are beautiful sights to see on the trails. Don’t miss it if you are in the area!"
"I enjoyed my visit to the Morris Canal History Day celebrated at the Waterloo Village today. Fascinating exhibits include a surviving part of the fabled Morris Canal (which was conceived in 1824 and closed down in 1924), including a gate lock. The Canal Museum is a "must see" and includes a model of the famous Incline Plane 9 West and many great historic photographs. Another fascinating exhibit is the only remaining original canal boat with its own fascinating history. The Gristmill is fabulous too."
"Absolutely beautiful site. Feels like I traveled to my grandparents' village. Has a small farm, old buildings of the Smith family and of other families who lived there. The farmsite cabin was built in 1825. The village was built by Mr. Smith along the Morris canal. This place should be magical in the fall."
