About the Business
The North Philadelphia Peace Park, located at 2226 West Jefferson Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a charitable eco-campus and passive park that provides free programs to the greater Philadelphia community. The park's mission is rooted in the belief that land is the basis of human independence and farming is the engine of community life. Since 2018, the Peace Park has given away over 30,000 lbs of fresh produce through its "fence-free" gardens and local donations, with a focus on introducing local youth to agricultural practices.
In addition to its free produce programs, the Peace Park is committed to promoting an economic revolution through the ethical utilization of local resources to create cooperatives and micro-industries. One such initiative is The Black Market, a weekly local entrepreneur market featuring natural products made from the park's harvest. The park also offers educational programs focused on S.T.E.M, practical skills, and a thorough understanding of self and others, with partnerships with local schools and universities.
The Peace Park also prioritizes community health and wellness, offering free programs such as group counseling, art therapy, yoga, fitness, and cooking classes through its Self-Care Saturdays program. The park's design, planning, and architecture wing, Peace Park Design, works to aid communities in designing new land-based futures, with an Afro-futurist approach that merges ancient African architecture with modern African American typologies.
Founder Brother Tommy Joshua envisions the North Philly Peace Park as a catalyst for a new neighborhood, emphasizing the concept of "Neighborhood Joy" and democratic control over community institutions. The park's innovative programs and commitment to sustainability make it a unique and valuable resource for the Philadelphia community.

"Me and a few friends of mine came by here a few weeks ago because we were in the area and it’s a very nice little park with a community garden that has a variety of fruits and vegetables in it, there’s also a lot of art on the walls which is very cool and interesting. The park also had some informative boards of black historical figures which was also nice to see. Would love to come back again in the future."
"The Peace Park is always a beautiful place to come and get food grown organically from community members."
"North Philly Peace park is a community experience rather than a destination. This a community project that furthers the food security in the area by growing and giving away many vegetables and fruits. Follow their social media for other events such as health and wellbeing events, fairs, and other celebrations. There is an incredible team of people that are maintaining this project and I hope to enjoy visiting and volunteering at the park for many years to come"
"A true gem of a space! Every Sunday you can volunteer to help from 11am-4pm and they do food giveaways of their produce, sometime supplemented with other food as well. It's a vibrant and loving space and there are benches in the shade to sit at."
"I recently moved to Philly and was hoping to find volunteer opportunities. Met some of the NPPP dedicated staff of volunteers who welcomed me with open arms and put me right to work. I am looking forward to sow and grow as we make a difference in the community."
