Reviews of Greenwell State Park
"I give two stars because you can take panoramic photos but online I read that this park has a beach to swing and honestly the water is too nasty, the access is very tight, smell bad and also there is a sign that says not swimming (see photo). This state park is more a farm than park."
"Nice park - there's a few small trails, and you can walk along the coast path and on the rocks and sand. There are some animals / farms around as well, and some picnic areas. Overall, it's a neat park to visit, and economical. It was $3 for locals and $5 for non locals (but I'm pretty sure this was just a trust system where you put in cash if you want to). Definitely recommend checking this park out for a nice low key visit."
"Such a cute park to visit. Really nice trails along the water but some more directional signs around the park would be helpful. Nice beach areas including one hidden one on the brown trail! I also would have loved more information about the history of the land and the people that worked it because it is obviously a former plantation."
"I’m not sure how I’m just finding this park but it’s a great place to visit. It’s a $3 charge per car. As usual I focused on the trails but there is quite a bit going on here. Clearly some historical buildings and a working horse farm of some sort. I didn’t explore this side yet. When you pull into the park you can continue to go straight towards the houses and barns but I turned left for the pavilion and walked the brown trail. The pavilion had public restrooms and a cool fireplace under the pavilion with picnic tables. I’m guessing it’s the brown trail due to all of the piles of horse poo. So heads-up people do ride their horses on most of the trails. You should watch your step but they are big piles so they are hard to miss. It was a nice short trail with a few beach areas and scenic views of the river. Some of the views are elevated with a steep drop so keep an eye on your kids. Great place to go on a weekday for a quiet peaceful walk along the water. There is also a a kayak launch pier/dock. There were quite a few chained up so I assume you can rent them during the summer or bring your own. There were 4 other trails I will certainly be going back to walk those as well. There is a second entrance that appears to be for hunters only but just past that was also helwig field which is for aero modelers. It was closed but looks like a small runway and a pavilion. All in all a pretty cool place with great water views."
"Park with horses and open fields. Didn't really explore the trails. Seems like you can rent a kayak there, but not sure how. The beaches were hard to find because there is a beach that you see off the trail down to fish, but it's not the ones listed on the maps. More trail markers and intermittent maps would've been nice. The beach we went to there (The one to the left on the map) was nice. Very shallow. Squishy sand and not many rocks. Would suggest water shoes."
