Savage Park
About the Business
Savage Park, located at 8400 Fair Street in Savage, Maryland, United States, is a historic park with a rich history dating back to the 1700s. Originally owned by various families including the Talbots, Dorsey, Howard, Weems, and Bland, the land was once home to enslaved African Americans who worked on the farm until emancipation in 1864. The property changed hands several times until it was purchased by the Smith family in 1937, who resisted efforts to sell it for development.
In 1997, Howard County acquired the property and began developing it into a park, preserving its history while creating a space for outdoor recreation. The park features various amenities including outdoor basketball courts, a skate park, pickleball courts, pathways, parking lots, and shade structures. With a mix of deciduous forest, farmlands, and orchards, Savage Park offers a green oasis in the heart of Howard County, providing opportunities for nature education and historic interpretation. Visit Savage Park to explore its rich history and enjoy outdoor activities in a beautiful natural setting.

"We loved walking around this area! It was beautiful and relatively peaceful. Iโd give it five stars, but it is a short walk, so this may not be for someone looking for a long hike."
"Never knew there were so many ball fields and courts back here. The playground is great, and the hiking trails are a nice way to spend an afternoon. I suspect parking gets pretty tight if all the fields are in use, though."
"Great outdoors local park surrounded by beautiful trees. Very neat and clean. Biking/walking trails, basketball goals, baseball field, playground, and plenty of space. Water nearby. Daytime picnics and grilling areas."
"Very busy Easter Sunday! The tennis and basketball courts were filled with children and adults as well as the playground. The 3 baseball fields were empty. The trail towards the back of the park is about a 30 minute walk to the end and back. Great for walking or cycling. Beautiful scenery, one of a kind. The public restrooms were stocked and mostly clean. Definitely worth a return visit!"
"This trail is my absolute favorite! I bring my dog here all the time. There are a few spots at the creek where you can put your feet into the water and cool down. It's also right by ramshead, which allows dogs at the front seating area."
