Reviews
"I live in York so I haven't taken my car to Lou. But I have come to know him as a friend and my daughters since they live in southern York Co. recommend Forge Hill Auto for excellent service. I have a beautiful classic car and Lou is responsible for finding it for me. I just want to say if his workmanship is as great as his personality, you can't go wrong taking your vehicle to Forge Hill Auto."
"I got an estimate for front and back brakes on my 2016 Ford Escape. He had the best price my car was scheduled quickly and ready around 1. He also had a recommendation on my plate he mentioned it's inligible, and we could get pulled over for it. He said I could take it and have a new plate ordered with the same plate number. I greatly appreciated this, and he rotated my tires at no cost since they were already off. I plan to go back and use this as my local mechanic. I highly recommend!"
"Was able to speak to Lou the day after Christmas. He kept me updated throughout the process and didn't overcharge me. Best mechanic service I've ever had."
"We're a little disappointed with this shop, surprisingly. Unlike a previous positive review, about a year ago I stopped in to speak with Lou about a reoccurring issue with our classic car. I had it towed ($100) in which he hadn't taken much time to see what the problem was. In the end, he said that it was safe to drive home, which it clearly wasn't and others agreed too that it was a wise move on my part not to do so (safety for myself and others on the road). We left with no answers. I then spent countless hours researching what the problem could be (I didn't mind - it's my car). Once decided on a course of action, I stopped back in to see about having the car re-towed back for the project, which Lou agreed to do the work on in a few months and even said that he would look into possible solutions to the problem himself too. Things seemed perfectly fine in that he provided me with his cell #, email address, etc. to keep in touch (he personally indicated that he checks all those sources). However, when the time came, regardless how often I reached out through all of those means he never returned any of my messages. What happened? It would seem as if Lou always prefers folks to drive to his shop, wait for him to finish whatever task he is doing at the time, and then wait for him to speak. Unlike Lou, I don't work from home - I work multiple jobs and don't have the time to constantly keep driving all the way over to his shop just to ask a simply question, especially w/ the current high fuel prices. This was why the telephone was invented in the first place. It's insulting too because if you want any info, you must drive to his shop with the hope that he'll be there. Once there, you wait and follow him around in which you have to plan on being at his shop for a considerable amount of time. Again, who has time for this? Despite all that, I even recommended a friend to have a front-end alignment done at his shop in which he never reached out to this individual neither - embarrassing me. Insulting still, when my classic car was running fine, I even took a friend of Lou's out for a spin and quickly gave Lou contact information about a body shop immediately when he asked about it. Family and friends within the community whom I've spoke with alike have all reported the same experiences - he can do good work, but 'Amish Lou' doesn't believe in the use of phones / very poor communication, in general. This is how you treat customers? If it's something that you'd rather not do, just let your yes be yes and no be no so that folks' don't waste time and can go elsewhere. I understand being busy, but if a business is busy, why not have someone to help answer the phones for you? In the end, the problem with the classic car was minor, yet cost him business. Word of mouth is crucial in any business and, unfortunately, he lost ours... JAD"
"The gentleman who works at/owns this shop was extremely helpful when I got a flat tire. I was visiting from out of town and was concerned about getting home. He helped me right away, found the screw in the tire and repaired it right away for a very reasonable price. He even checked all my other tires and filled them with air as needed. The world needs more honest, helpful auto repair places like this one."
