Located at 10018-10020 Autumn View Lane in Ellicott City, Maryland, the Font Hill Wetland Park is a beautiful park and tourist attraction in the United States. The history of the land where the park is located dates back to the time when Susquehannock and Piscataway tribes used the area for hunting and seasonal camps. The first European settlers, including Puritans, Quakers, and Catholics, arrived seeking religious freedom in the early 17th century. The land has seen various owners over the years, including the Talbots, Dorsey, Howard, Weems, and Bland families.
The name "Blandair" comes from Theodorick Bland, who purchased the land in 1844 as a country retreat. The property was later owned by the Mayo and Gaither families, who continued to use it as a country home. Over the years, the land transitioned from a dairy farm to fruit orchards, with different families residing on the property.
The last owners of the land were the Smith family, who bought the farm in 1937 to raise Arabian horses. The property remained in the Smith family until 1997, when Howard County purchased it and began developing it into a park. The park now offers a mix of deciduous forest, fields, and farmlands, providing a green oasis in the midst of the bustling city of Columbia.
With plans for future development that include outdoor basketball courts, a skate park, pickleball courts, pathways, and more, Font Hill Wetland Park is set to become a premier destination for outdoor recreation and nature education in Howard County. Visitors can explore the rich history of the land, from its Native American roots to its colonial past, making it a must-visit attraction for history buffs and nature lovers alike.

"Small beautiful neighborhood park with 2 ponds. The path is paved and flat. Even though it was mid-afternoon when I was there I saw the following birds: Red Shouldered Hawk, Yellow Bellied Sapsucker, Bluebirds, Goldfinches, Dark Eyed Junco, White Throated Sparrow, Cardinals, Green Heron, Vultures, Mallards, Canadian Geese, House Sparrows, Downy Woodpecker. It has a nice little gazebo where you can sit and overlook the water."
"Beautiful little lake with a walking path around. About half a mile all the way around. We saw a turtle, and a number of birds on our first visit."
"Good park for daily walk and spend time with kids n family. Kids playground is good. In summer, after a long walk people can enjoy ice cream from ice cream truck. Little lake is full of ducks and turtles which is good to see while walking."
"I’ve been in the Columbia/EC area for many years but never knew about this little gem of a park. Very peaceful and tranquil area. Perfect for a nice walk. I had my headphones on, but decided to take them off and just listen to nature. I’ll be coming back many more times! Update. Still coming back for this wonderful and easy "getaway"!"
"This is a nice park for a quiet walk. Smooth paths, good for strollers, pretty well maintained. Nice forest, pond and stream views. Quite a lot of wildlife for a suburban setting if you're looking for it. No parking to speak of; best bet is probably street parking in the neighborhood to east of the park, I guess."
