Reviews of Performance Automatic LLC
"I do NOT recommend buying a transmission from Performance Automatic. I’m reposting this review because PA has moved to this new location. I still haven’t heard from them to resolve my issue. I Purchased the Streetsmart 4R70W AODE transmission package. I have been dealing with this “lemon” for three years now, and it has never shifted properly (poor forward gear shifting in OD and no lock up). The package I bought came with the MSD transmission control module (TCM). I worked diligently with MSD to make sure that the TCM and wiring were all hooked up correctly and functioning properly. I have worked painstakingly with Performance Automatic (PA), trying to figure out just why I can’t get a normal shift sequence in overdrive (OD). I even returned the transmission for warranty repair to PA, (Fredrick, Maryland) at a cost of $892 shipping to me. After reinstalling the transmission, I thought there would not be any further problems. But I was wrong. The transmission had the exact same shifting issues, (as if nothing had been done). I dropped the pan so that I could look at and replace the filter if needed. To my amazement when I pulled the filter down I noticed a bolt hanging down over a quarter of an inch from the valve body, (others were loose). After another call to PA, I finally decided to take the transmission to a nearby transmission specialist in Sacramento. The owner and transmission expert allowed me to watch while he dismantled and assessed the transmission. It became obvious that short cuts were made on the initial build that led to the failure. It also became obvious that nothing had been done to fix the problem when I sent it back to Performance Automatic in Maryland for repair. After a complete rebuild I was able to take the transmission home and put it in the truck. I hadn’t changed anything since the removal and was able to put the transmission back in, reinstall the linkage and drive shaft and hook up the MSD controller. Now the truck and transmission are running excellent. The MSD control works perfect, smooth shifting and no problems whatsoever. Performance Automatic: Waste of time and money."
"It makes me give one star but honestly ZERO Stars Took a 4R100 to them for rebuild. Took longer then expected, could not get in touch with them for updates, finally got the trans back and it was no good. Tried to get in touch with them, left voicemails, no reply. Stopped payment on the check and finally they called several days later asking why. Never listened to my previous "its not working" voicemails, just cared about why I stopped payment. I own Woodbine Motorsports and this rebuild was for a customer of mine. I sent the trans to georgia to A1 Transmissions for inspection and this is from the owner of A1 "this is the worst rebuild I have ever seen" They reused a damaged coast drum, the front pump they replaced was damaged with marks from where it was beat on. There was a hole drilled in the front pump for no reason which did not allow pressure to be built up. Several bushings were not replaced, others were not seated properly. They used a deeper 4x4 pan filter and cut it down to make it work. "Washed" aluminum parts have a black film on them from their parts washer being filthy. Their shop is filthy dirty and unorganized. I actually had reservations about leaving the trans with them when I dropped it off due to the look of the place. Unorganized office and shop. My shop is out the $150 in fluid we put in the broken trans, the customer now has to pay more money for broken/damaged parts that they reused or abused and then there is the labor to R&R the trans again. So far no reply or remedy from Performance Automatic. I sent them all the pictures and video's of the evidence. The manager said he did not reply to my original voicemail about it being broken because "I've got 65 voicemails that I cant get to and I'm short handed here" He sounded frustrated at his job and the owner has not reached out to me for any kind of resolution and its been two weeks. Pics included but I also have two detailed video's from A1 transmission on the teardown and what they found."
