Reviews of Middlebury Farmers' Market
"There is always something good to find at the Saturday farmers market. Just make sure to go early enough before all of the tasty pastries are gone!"
"So wonderful to have an indoor farmers market in the winter! Had a great time chatting with each vendor and bringing something home from each one. Thanks for organizing this."
"It's small but I love going to see what the vendors have each week. There is a farmer from hardwood farms who brings a select of starters, there is a farmer who makes, bakes and sells GF oats & breads. She also makes gelato! There is also a woman who makes gins, liqueurs, and rums. There are a few other tents that come and they are all equally wonderful. The market is on Wednesday and Saturdays 9am to 12noon."
"Only been living in the area for a few years, so I can't speak to what it was like in the distant past...but I can say that unfortunately I will not be supporting this farmer's market with its current operating policies. The main reason is a recent change that does not allow dogs to be on the premises during the weekly market. It was always a fun family outing, that was outside and the dog(s) could come. Due to a few vendors, dogs are no longer welcome. One vendor in particular went out of their way rather rudely to tell us no dogs were allowed and that we needed to leave or leave the dog in our car (mind you it is the summer and was in the 80's, so that option was out of the question). We politely said that we would leave but asked that there be better signage notifying individuals of the new rule, and pointed out the other 4 dogs at the event at the time. She said there was and that I should get my eyesight checked, and that the other dogs were fine since they were so small (most looked to be pocketbook dogs/smaller than most cats). When I asked where the signage was she pointed to a fallen over sign behind one of the vendors that was not where is could be seen by anyone until someone put it upright again. There were several other dogs there but none were spoken to during our time there, so enforcement of this policy seems to be inconsistent. I hate to say it but it appears to be along the lines of smaller dogs are ok but larger dogs are not. So sad to since there are so many other nice folks there. I love several of the vendor's and their products are amazing, but I'll have to find a different market going forward. I hear Vergennes has a nice one that allows animals to attend."
"I wish they hadn't moved to the VFW. While it has more parking than downtown, it's also out of the way and so attendance seems to be down which negatively affects the vendors. There also seems to be fewer and fewer vendors every year since they moved to the VFW which is disappointing. Perhaps when the downtown construction project is done they'll be able to move somewhere closet to downtown to make it more convenient. Where, I'm not sure and it'll be another year or two before that even happens."
