"My second visit to Brot Bakehouse School and Kitchen: I attended a one day Rye class and it was fabulous! Heike, made it all seem simple and approachable for all levels. The atmosphere was extra special- I imagine I’ll keep coming back!"
"My sourdough bread baking journey was enhanced when I purchased Sarah Owens first book, "Sourdough". Since getting her book (and subsequent ones) I decided that I wanted to take a workshop at some point. When I found out she was going to be in VT (where my husband has relatives), we decided it was going to be our summer adventure. Brot Bakehouse is located in the picturesque hills of northern VT. The gardens were in full glory and created a relaxing and beautiful setting. The atmosphere of the school is welcoming with Heike and her husband greeting us as we arrived with yummy snacks, drinks, and coffees. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything a bread-baker could ever want. We had a large group and worked in pairs (10 in total). The first day of Sarah's Wholegrain Baking workshop was busy from morning until late afternoon...we accomplished a lot of bread making on that first day! Lunch was provided and welcomed after all our hard work. The next day was more leisurely as we baked off most of our creations from the day before. Again snacks, lunch, and discussions were in abundance. Sarah is so knowledgeable about the craft of using whole grains and low-gluten grains in baking. We were sent home with generous loaves of our breads and our heads filled with newfound information to take into our sourdough journey. I highly recommend Brot Bakehouse and School for anyone interested in expanding their baking repertoire."
"I attended a workshop with Sarah Owens at Brot Bakehouse. Now my goal in life is to pack up and move to VT. Brot itself is a gorgeous property. The kitchen space is the perfect blend of past and present, with it's beautiful wood fired ovens sitting directly across from very modern convection oven and fridges. The level of knowledge that Heike has and that gather together within those walls is inspiring no matter where you are in your baking journey. I highly recommend taking a class here whether you are a pro, a seasoned home baker, or complete novice. I know I will be back for sure."
"I attended the sourdough 101 bread baking class hosted by Heike at the Brot Bakehouse School. This was an outstanding demonstration and learning environment. Heike mentored each student allowing for a valuable one to one experience. No details were spared and all questions were answered in a logical and thoughtful science and practical based fashion. I left with a total understanding of how to care for my starter and how to bake nutritious sourdough bread. Heike is not only generous with her knowledge but also gave us enough sourdough starter to feed on a regular basis, three loaves of baked bread and enough dough for at least two more loaves to bake at home, not to mention the delicious refreshments. I took my starter home and fed it according to Heike's directions and it is beautiful, bubbly and has a lovely aroma (see attached photograph). I baked biscuits with the discards using Heike's recipe and the biscuits are delicious. I am looking forward to baking lots of loaves of bread. Thank You Heike. You are a kind, generous and compassionate teacher."
"Recently I have attended a couple of classes that I must say exceeded my expectations! The setting is serene and simply perfect, full of character! You feel welcome and accepted even if you are not an experienced baker! I want to say a huge Thank You ,Heike! You are truly a huge inspiration to me! I consider to be very lucky that I got the chance to attend the classes with Heike ,Anna and Randy! Every minute was worth it and full of useful information! And I am definitely looking forward to more classes!"
