Reviews of Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center
"I worked there for almost three months. I started out as an Interventionist formally known as CSS (Campus Support Staff). I really enjoyed the fact it supported students with autism, as I have almost ten years experience in human services. I think it should be known that this whole buyout by Gersh Academy which is a for profit organization is enough of a reason to veer away from sending your loved ones to this school. I was about a month into my employment with Crotched Mountain Foundation, when I was offered a promotion to Coordinator of Residential Student Services. I took the position as my experience is relevant, on top of the unknown job description I never received no surprise there. I ensured all the group homes were staffed, midst a staffing crisis across the board for Residential and the School. I also did scheduling for group homes, bi-weekly payroll, supported Interventionist/ CSS on 2nd Shift when a crisis would arise. I did my job to the best of my ability with what little support I had from a management to work with. I throughly cared, and supported my direct care staff with whatever they needed. I knew upper management looked at them as just numbers basically, but no not me they’re the eyes and ears of the company let’s face it. I strived everyday to show them I’m here for you, as your success is my success. I would recommend anyone reading this review to refrain from applying here, as you could end up on chopping block for doing the right thing, and advocating for students and staff needs. Pros- Great Direct Care Staff, Decent Compensation, Up To Date With Training. Cons- Poor Management, Expensive Benefits, No Work Life Balance, For Profit, Lots Of Lies."
"I worked at Crotched for almost 4 years. I was pleased with the experience that I got there. I myself went through special education schools but they were a much different environment. The environment was way more focused with a solid plan for all the students. At Crotched I got to experience the environment that doesn't solidify plans for the clients. For example when you go to Crotched you could send a client there to age out. The environment is just everywhere going in to many directions. They don't have a solidified plan of direction!! The ideas are great but the place has had so many face lifts through the years I find it hurting the new team. The place is also to big. Crotched needs to improve on there directions. They are very top heavy in administration. Decrease top heavy roles and funnel money to the direct care staff, teachers, residential program management and on site clinical. I say that because the investment is in the client!! The treatments that are available!! And the operations specialty!!. You will increase success in clients it becomes natural that others will follow!."
"I was at Crotched Mountain, in 1965, for a medical evaluation. Again, in 1971, I was thee for a vocational evaluation. My second time I didn't want to go. I didn't wan't to be there, but that was no reason from the employees. I had an attitude. Crotched Mountain, is an excellent facility for children and young adults with Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism and other handicaps. I was born with Cerebral Palsy.. i Mark Dunn"

"I hate that I have to give this place even one star, because even one star is about 10 stars more than they deserve. Crotched mountain has a questionable reputation and it is very well-deserved. My boyfriend was here for three months and it was a torturously long, and frustrating three months. CM is a cesspool of ineptitude that fails to have a single redeeming quality since the one competent staff member they had does not even work there anymore. The place is obviously understaffed, and they refuse to admit it. My boyfriend usually waited a minimum of 20 minutes when he needed assistance. The average wait time was more like 40 minutes. Keep in mind, he had a spinal cord injury and was completely dependent on the staff for everything he needed and that was the best response time they could manage. Eventually to get help he would call crotched mountain, ask to be transferred to the building he was in, and ask them to send a nurse to his room, although that rarely worked since there was usually nobody at the desk. In addition to the ridiculous response time for everything, the staff managed to fail in every other way possible. When he expressed concerns with how long he was waiting for everything, his case manager told him he was "obsessed with the clock" and needed to keep himself busy. She told someone who was confined to bed for 20 hours a day in a tiny room with nothing but a tv that had a handful of network tv stations, that he needed to keep busy. It was laughable except for the fact that she was serious. He also dealt with nurses giving incorrect doses of meds, not knowing what they were giving for meds, being rude, lazy, and completely unprofessional. There were a couple staff members who were nice, but the few who tried were unable to properly do their jobs well and pick up the slack of the majority of the staff who chose to do nothing and got away with it. When we expressed concern that they were neglecting patients, we had a meeting and the pathetic solution was to have a sign in sheet in his room. The sign in sheet lasted a couple days and then was forgotten. In addition to it being an ineffectual solution, the staff made no secret of the fact that they thought it was a joke. One night when he asked for a drink of water, after an lna brought it to him, another mockingly asked, "did you remember to write that on the sheet?"and then they both laughed at how clever they were. It is NEVER appropriate to mock a patient, the fact that it was done in front of the patient is inexcusable, except at Crotched. Don't be fooled by their website, it very inaccurately portrays their facility. They tout it as a cutting-edge rehab hospital with a caring staff that develops a care plan with the family and patient to provide the best care possible. That's a load of horseshit. CM is an antiquated facility with poorly trained staff that fails to really even really develop a care plan, and it feels that they resent family wanting to be involved. When he was first admitted to CM we were told there would be weekly family meetings that we could attend to discuss his progress. We had one meeting before they informed us that the meetings really weren't for family, they were meant to be just among the doctors, nurses, therapists, and case mangers. I guess family is no longer invited to the meetings once they start having concerns and wanting solutions. Any concerns were basically brushed off and we were made to feel that we were being unreasonable and expecting too much. Expecting decent care from Crotched is apparently too much. In reality, expecting anything from Crotched is too much. The buildings suck, the staff sucks, the care sucks, the equipment sucks, and even the food sucks. Once leaving Crotched mountain, they continued to suck. There was no discharge plan to get services in place so he was cared for when he left. Months later we were informed about all the things that crotched should have done before discharging him rather than just sending him on his way. Don't go here, don't send family here."
