Reviews of Moose Hillock Camping Resorts - NY
"We enjoyed our time at Moose Hillock! If you are booking a site there, it's definitely for the pool... which is amazing! The kids had a blast, and were actually able to stay in because of how warm it was. I was disappointed they didn't do a 'swim in movie' during our holiday weekend stay, but they still had a great time. Shout out to the awesome ventriloquist who came. My kids are still talking about how great the show was! The sites are as pictured. They are all huge and private, we really enjoyed that. I found the camp store to be overpriced and understocked. I spent $73 for three children's white t-shirts for the tie-dye activity.... wouldn't do that again. The best part of this campground for me was the staff. I really appreciated that we as guests weren't constantly harassed at the pool. Kids were able to jump in the water, bring their own pool toys/tubes and enjoy the slides. There's nothing worse than getting yelled at by 16 year old kids all vacation for running/ jumping etc etc! Thank you Moose Hillock!"
"We recently stayed at Moose Hillock for the 3rd time and I have a love/hate relationship with it. Overall I really enjoy it but there are some areas that I feel really need to be improved upon for it to keep with other resort campgrounds. Pros: - sites are HUGE and almost all are well shaded with lots of tree cover. - the pool is outstanding! It is heated. Has good hours. Slides are suitable for all ages. Lines typically move quickly. - outside staff are awesome. I'm talking about you Georgia guys working the carts, pool and gate! Very friendly and always helpful. - they allow tents on sites in addition to RV's. This is becoming less and less common. You still pay visitor fee but it's nice that you can keep a big family together. - golf carts are well maintained and conveniently located to pool/playground/store. All carts are 6 passenger which is nice. Cons: - very $$$$ focussed, even compared to other campgrounds in Lake George and New York State. - wood and ice are outrageously priced forcing you offsite. Most resorts you can buy wood and ice cheaper and have it delivered to your site. - outside of the pool and playground there are very few free activities especially for a place considered a resort campground. - no shade at the pool unless you pay for an awning or cabana. This is wild to me and I can't think of any other campground like it with a pay for shade model. - Rough gravel roads. Not friendly for biking or pulling wagons/pushing strollers. It kind of forces you into renting a golf cart. - Dust. You expect some dust mid summer but the gravel here creates just a tremendous amount of dust. Keep vehicle windows closed and expect everything to get terribly dusty at the roadside and front of the camper. - Site lock fee. A lot of places have this now but this is the only place I've ever been moved and the site was not comparable. - Registration staff, most are very good. 1 is less than desirable and I've gotten stuck with her all 3 times now. At this price and this kind of resort I don't expect someone with a chip on their shoulder speaking down to me. It's a poor way to start a vacation. If I return I'll make sure to register with anyone but her. Pointer - do not book multiple visits on the same reservation. I did this online for a single checkout and it caused me a ton of headaches. I was moved on my first visit and that resulted in a move for my second visit on the same same reservation. It wasn't intentional just an unfortunate side effect of their computer system."
"Very disappointed. The cost to camp is outrageous for what is there. Pool was cold, grandson's were excited about the tie dye event but it was canceled due to weather but they have a large pavilion that could have been used . Staff was not friendly. Playground was small and needed repairs.5 MPH speed limit was not followed especially by golf carts. Would not recommend."
"As soon as we pulled in dumpsters are all full and overflowing. We can smell the garbage from our site. They advertise that you won't be able to see other campers. Not true we can see both campers on each side, one behind us and one across the road from us. Not overly impressed for what we are paying. Sure hope it gets better! Update: it got much better dumpsters we're emptied and the smell went away. The pool was so enjoyable but a little on the cool side for a heated pool."
"Overall we were really happy with our trip to Moose Hillock. Close to Lake George. Pros: The pool was amazing! Really big and really fun, especially during movie night. The kids loved it. The cabanas to rent were also a really nice add on. The sites are incredible. The biggest we’ve seen (mostly camp in the New England area). They’re also very clean and private. Can’t even see the camper next to you. Big sites does mean big campground so walking around takes a while to get there. A golf cart definitely helped. The staff in the store and office were very happy and friendly. Laundry room was clean and easy to use with an app or quarters. Cons: The cafe leaves something to be desired. They could have more seating and umbrellas to make people want to use the nice big patio area. The fire pits are weird. You can’t sit around the whole thing because they’re against the wooded side. So a half circle only. Luckily we had our small solo stove with us so we used that instead. Which is kind of a shame because it’s tiny. The pool can get crowded and needed a good skimming at times. No activities- I wish there was a little more things for the kids to do - a week long trip kind of needs things like that to break up the days at the lake and days at the pool. Wish there was ceramics or tie dye or something along those lines like some campgrounds do. Overall really like this place and would recommend a family with kids to try it out!"
