"I really want to like this place, it’s so close and seems like it would be a good dining spot but after a few visits (one takeout and two dine in) I’m just not a fan. On our most recent visit we went for breakfast. The main complaints were as follows: food took over 30 min to arrive and dishes weren’t brought out together so I awkwardly sat there while my husband and part of my son’s dishes arrived. My son’s bacon was both burned and undercooked. My English muffin on my Benedict wasn’t toasted and the potatoes that I asked for crispy were underdone. They up-charged $2 to add choc chips to my son’s pancake and only refilled my husband’s coffee once. For a culinary resort and restaurant I expect better food than this and given the high prices we probably won’t try it again. Bummed."

"The Essex Resort & Spa in general is awesome, but I especially love The Tavern. The food is SO good (what else would you expect from this culinary resort) and I really appreciate the great selection of beers on tap. Also some of the best hostesses, bartenders, and waiters/waitresses! Highly recommend!"

"Server was super nice. The apple cider mules were made very well. The steak was cooked very well. I definitely recommend you hit up this spot on a weekday as it is a bit busier on the weekends."

"One of two restaurants located on the grounds of the Essex Resort and Spa, the Tavern has a nice casual dining feel. We got into the resort around 7pm, and had been driving a good portion of the day, so didn't want to have to drive somewhere to get food. We decided to get something at the Tavern. We sat at the bar, enjoyed some wings and drinks, before heading to our room. The bartender was wonderful. She not only was friendly but she also helped steer us to some tasty local drinks. A little on the pricey side ($30-ish per person) but worth it."
