About the Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian and Day Use Area
Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian and Day Use Area is a recreational facility located at 2686 U.S. 9, North Hudson, New York, United States. This institution offers a campground, lodging, and park for visitors to enjoy. The campground features 77 campsites, including equestrian camping sites with ADA compliant features. There are also RV and trailer camping sites, as well as a multi-use camping area for tents, RVs, and trailers. The facility includes amenities such as shower buildings, pavilions, and hibachi-style grills.
Visitors can explore a network of pedestrian trails that lead to viewpoints along the Schroon River and an oxbow wetland. The campground is designed to be fully accessible to people with disabilities, with most recreation features meeting accessibility standards. Additionally, there is a seasonal day use area along the shoreline of the Schroon River, complete with a pavilion, playground, and flush toilets.
The goal of this project is to establish a new gateway hub to the Adirondacks that will promote a world-class recreation experience and support the economic vitality of the surrounding towns. DEC operates the facility according to the terms of a conservation easement. Visitors can support DEC lands, facilities, and programs through the National Heritage Trust. Donations to NHT directly support projects that enhance facilities, expand access to outdoor recreation, and protect natural resources.

Reviews of Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian and Day Use Area
"Frontier Town Campground is one of the best looking and most modern campgrounds in NY State. The campsites they have are larger and roomier than any other campground I have been too. They also go to out of there way to accommodate people with horses. The campgrounds were built on what was left of the former Frontier Town amusement park which closed in 1998. Many buildings throughout the campground are built to emulate the Western-style buildings of the former Frontier Town. Roads throughout the campground also have Western themed names. As a day use facility you can hike or walk the Pioneer Trail that goes through the camp. The trail is built for both people and horses. It is an easy trail that is not very challenging. There are places to picnic along it. Part of the Schroon River is located in the campground, not sure if any of it was suitable for fishing. Location wise there wasn't too much around Frontier Town. There is a brewpub near the entrance and another restaurant a few miles away. Unfortunately, the campground was also was loaded with mosquitoes. Not many people were camping there when I went and there were many empty campsites. If going just for day use they offer a few things to do, but not as much as other NY State campgrounds. Go to the campground's webpage to book a campsite if interested."
"My new favorite DEC campground to stay at! Stayed one night here and instantly fell in love with the atmosphere, architecture and layout of the campground. It's brand new and has the newest amenities. Super clean facilities and restrooms, very spacious (wish there was more shaded tent sites though!) and quiet and peaceful. I felt like I was camping out in Montana or the wild west, they sure did an awesome job replicating Frontier Town's vibe and matching the style of the former theme park."
"Last minute trip north on the motorcycles & decided to see what this campground was like. Very friendly and welcoming staff at the gate and a smooth walk in / check in process. All of the sites are large, clean, level and well maintained. The firm, level gravel base was perfect for the motorcycles. No chance of sinking in mud or struggling to find a safe parking angle. A large, sand base tent pad was comfortable and dry. (Even with all of the rain we’ve had this summer!) Some of the new vegetation between sites is still growing, but there is plenty of space between sites. Bathrooms were clean and … graffiti FREE!! There is a well maintained, accessible path around the campground with several spots & picnic tables available to enjoy the Schroon River. The Ranger was very friendly & knowledgeable, and interested in any feedback re motorcycle camping at their facility."
"Amazing campground between Lake George and Lake Placid, very friendly staff, you can check in till 9 o'clock pm (at other campgrounds the office closes at 6pm)the campground is very clean, with clean and nice bathrooms and showers. Sites are big and we had privacy from other people. We would definitely go back."
"Beautiful park, nice sties. They are definitely are focused on primitive camping, very few rv sites, no water hookups. Bathrooms are good and clean, but hot water is lacking in demanding times. Lots of good site seeing around."
