Reviews of Hearth & Candle
"Fabulous service! Food was excellent. We had the seafood chowder and loaded potato soup to start. Both were very tasty. For dinner, we had the pork chop and one of the specials - beef tips with mash potatoes and carrots. Both were cooked to perfection and incredibly flavorful. To finish off our experience, we shared the brown sugar pecan cheesecake and a cappuccino. It was a wonderful experience with great service and wonderful food. Highly recommend!!"
"My friend and I ate here on a Tuesday in early October. It was a full house but not overwhelmingly so. Our server was wonderful, unobtrusive yet still attentive. Unfortunately, it seemed like they were understaffed as she was serving all tables on the lower level. We ordered the baguette with maple whipped butter and the 5 spice pork belly to start. My friend decided on the bone-in pork chop for an entree and I had the duck breast. His chop was overcooked and very dry. I understand that there is a fine line between juicy and dry when it comes to pork chops, but this was just way over that line. My duck breast 'medium rare' was on the plus side of medium, as in closer to well done. The skin was rubbery and had not been rendered properly to be crispy and have a nice crunch. I was very disappointed in the mains! Oh and nothing seemed to have been seasoned with any salt. The ONLY redeeming thing to the entire experience was the (Asian) 5 spice pork belly with maple glaze and red slaw. It was unctuous and juicy, the piece of meat had the perfect ratio of fat to protein and the flavors were perfect. 5 stars for this really great bite!!! Unfortunately, a 2 is all I can give for the rest of the meal. *****Kudos to our server. She was able to give every table the perfect amount of attention, even while serving more than 10 tables. 5 stars."
"Fantastic meal with wonderful service, highly recommended. We had salmon and two different duck dishes which were very good. One of them had a blueberry tarragon gastrique which was really good and I will try to recreate it."
"A favorite in Vermont that surprisingly gets better every time! I remember coming here when I was a kid and it being delicious - they have fantastic options for kids as well as a ‘young adult’ menu that gives higher quality food in smaller portions for the older kids. After visiting this past time, we really noticed some of the food shot up in quality - all our appetizers were extremely unique and delicious, and the entrees were fantastic portions and great! I started with the duck quesadillas, and it was prepared amazingly! For the entree I had the steak frites and it was great! Sampled the whitefish (I believe swordfish) from someone in our party and it was delicious garnished in a chimichurri sauce! Be prepared, the restaurant is pretty expensive, but if you are looking for your ‘night-out’ dinner, this is a great option with some delicious food. Will be back again many times!!"
"Great place! Ambience is nice; dimly lit and rustic. The venison chili is bucket list potential and the charcuterie was top notch. The Apple Galette was a bit chewy but had plenty of flavor! All in all a great dinner in a nice resort!"
