About the Bolton Potholes
Bolton Potholes is a popular park located at 1 Bolton Valley Access Road, Bolton, Vermont, United States. This well-known gorge is a stunning swimming hole and fishing access site on a sunny summer afternoon, but can also be a dangerous, raging torrent when the water is high. The gorge features pools and waterfalls formed over eons as the Huntington River carved its way through bedrock schist. The rock walls have been sculpted into dramatic chutes and bowls that create stunning cascades, especially during periods of high water.
Visitors are advised to use extreme caution as the water and cliffs can be extremely dangerous. Parking is limited to marked portions of Dugway Road closest to the river. Nearby dining options include The Big Spruce for tacos and creemees, Stone Corral Brewery for pub-style fare, Richmond Market & Beverage for picnic supplies, and Farr Farm for a full farm stand experience.
For safety reasons, it is recommended to avoid recreating at Bolton Potholes when the water is high. The rocks are slippery and steep, and even strong swimmers can be swept downstream into the deadly gorge. Directions to the park are provided for visitors coming from the north and south.
Overall, Bolton Potholes offers a breathtaking natural setting but requires visitors to exercise caution and respect the power of the water.

Reviews of Bolton Potholes
"This is NOT a safe place to swim. Approximately 3 miles upstream is a failing 1960's-era, tertiary water treatment system that serves about 600 people at Bolton Valley. Water above, at and below the pot holes (known by locals as the 'butt holes') has consistently high levels of e.coli. Last time I swam there was in 1984. Just because you're in Vermont doesn't mean the streams are clean"
"Watched my best friend die here. Please be careful if you're there when the water's cold or after a heavy rain. If you see a whirlpool in the pothole for the love of god please do not jump."
"Great spot but be careful. School employee (the parking is next to a school) told us the falls are the most deadly in VT. Would recommend microspikes and staying clear of the water this time of the year. Keep dogs on leash and close to you for safety."
"This place is incredibly beautiful. From the falls to the Mountain Views. The trails were nicely marked and well taken care of. Great swimming hole or if you just want to sit by and watch the cascades of water. Very easy to get to."
