Reviews of VCA Lakes Region Veterinary Hospital
"Friendly staff and super helpful! My cat required a surgery that I couldn't afford and they helped me figured out how I could get her the surgery! I recommend!"
"These guys saved my tooth big time! I was desperate for a visit to the vet and everyone else was booked solid. These folks had an opening same day and I had such a good time that I'm sure my laughter in the room could be heard in the lobby. Will definitely be back, and thank you all for putting up with my picky ways to get my puppers taken care of!"
"After having my dog for 15 years of my life it was time to put him down as he was getting very old and very sick. The carelessness that was given to my dog and mother as we left him at the hospital that day after saying goodbye was honestly unbelievable. No one came into the room to take him, they just left him laying there lifeless and we had to walk away uncomfortable not knowing when someone was going to come in and take care of him. On the way out we asked for and were assured that we would get ink paw prints in order to do tattoos as a family. My mom showed me today the prints that she picked up and they were in some cheap clay that doesn’t even harden all the way and the prints were dirty. At least have the compassion to clean his paws! We did not receive the ink prints and our dog is gone. We can’t get the tattoos that we planned on and the only thing we have to remember him by other than his ashes are horribly done paw prints on some cheap soft clay! Do not come here."
"Where to begin, I think first and foremost, if you like your animals alive & healthy, find a different vet. My 7 month old puppy was a patient here, until she wasn't. I went into the office three weeks prior to her death, saw Mr. Soucy (refuse to call him a doctor because he isn’t), explained she was showing shyness to her head and face, he did a quick exam and he shooed me on my way with pain meds to cover up her actual symptoms. It was so bad that while I was checking out, the tech was very concerned about my pup she actually went to get Soucy again and I was still released and told she checked out fine, here's some pain meds. Fast forward to a couple weeks later, she started shaking, was still eating and drinking ok, but shaking. I called the ER (another VCA shop no shock) at 4:30AM and was there at 5:00AM with one other person in the waiting room. I sat there for THREE hours, three, not one person checked on us. At 8AM, I walked to the front desk and said: hey there, her vet is open now, do you know when she will be seen or should I call them, the response: we cant tell you that. Super bedside manner, to be expected from this chain. I left, took her back to VCA in Laconia to be seen by Mr. Dylan Spitzer. To say I’ve never been treated so rudely in my life is an understatement. At this point my baby, Birdie Mae was shaking uncontrollably. He gave her an exam and told me she was fine (as she's convulsing on the floor in front of him and I’m in tears). He told me I seemed 'frustrated' and I said look at my puppy, wouldn’t you be? He told me it was most likely 'small dog shaking syndrome" and if I looked it up online I could probably find some articles. I said, she's not fine, he said well what do you want to do? I said, I’m not a vet, he said: well I am and she’s fine. would you like to do some bloodwork? I said sure if you think that will give us any answers at all. He left the room. The vet tech came in and I immediately started balling in her arms, she hugged me, told me I was doing the right thing and to trust my gut. I again was sent home with pain meds (see a pattern here, they need to lose their prescription license asap which I’m working on). Once more, as I checked out, a random stranger this time said is your dog ok she doesn’t seem it, I said no she isn’t. The staff still took my credit card graciously as I had to step away from the desk to compose myself from my obvious breakdown over what was happening. Three days later my 7 month old baby was dead. DEAD. These are not doctors, they are hacks. I’ve spoken to the medical director, John Guest, who refused to admit to a thing, danced around the topic and could have cared less. I also spoke with the office manager, Lisa Dockham, who took a lot of notes but again accepted zero responsibility. These people are sick, heartless, not trained, lazy and just push medicine to avoid actually doing their jobs. RUN, and I mean RUN. Here is my 7 month old baby, Birdie Mae, who is no longer alive due to the negligence of this practice."
"(This happened on April 22, 2022) The staff was incredibly caring and did their absolute best to guide me through the best plan of action. I soon realized there was nothing that could be done and Petey's quality of life would not be improving. It was their compassion, understanding, and expertise that helped me in making such a difficult decision, but I know it was the right one for Petey. My heart is broken, of course. Petey was a very special cat, a rarity, which is why even staff shed tears alongside me and my husband. It was comforting to know how much this team truly loved and cared for Petey. I miss him terribly; his gentlemanly ways, his big ol' mug of a head, his deformed ears and unusual thumbs. He chose me to be his person and the bond was strong. He let me know when he was ready, looking out for me to the end and even went out purring. It's just not the same around here without him, but I am grateful for all that the doctors and staff did for us."
