Reviews of Ausable Chasm
"A must visit! We went there in December. It was cold but not icy. They were selling traction at the entrance. I wish they provided those for free for the trail. There is a gift shop at the entrance. You have to pay about 19 bucks for an entrance fee. Rainbow Falls is the main attraction. You can see this waterfall from the road. If you just want to see the waterfall then no need to buy a ticket. The view from the bridge is splendid. If you want to trek along the chasm, then pay the entrance fee and start the trek. You will first see the elephant head. After this you see the Rainbow Falls from the bridge. Then you go through a gate where they check your wrist bands. There are three trails. The yellow trail was closed as it goes very close to the river and there was high water. It was also damaged at spots and that is why they had closed it. If this was open then it would be a great trail to walk on. It has several small bridges. It did feel a bit dangerous though too. Probably not recommended for kids. We did the green trail. It goes almost parallel to the yellow trail but on a higher ground and feels much safer. It is also very beautiful with several viewing points along the way. There is also an orange trail. It goes through the woods mostly. You can do this on the way back. Be careful with your phone while taking pics. I was always scared of dropping it in the chasm. We also heard ice falling off from the rocks into the river. It was scary and fun at the same time. Starting July 4th weekend you can also do river tubing and rafting. We are definitely coming back then. It took us about 2 hrs to do the trek. We enjoyed every minute of it. I highly recommend doing the trek, especially during winter. It is just beautiful. The drive is also beautiful. A must visit."
"Beautiful place. No guided tours in the winter. Though you can hike three different trails that are easy. Will come back in the summer for rafting and the adventure trail!"
"It's a beautiful place to hike with the river running on one side. It's about 2.5 mile and other route is around 5 mile, there are some water activities like rafting and tubing. Which is at extra charge. The only thing that is concerning is they charge you 18.50$ plus taxes for hiking. Which is a lot for a family and bunch of friends. Overall its a beautiful place."
"I bought the classic tour ticket and it was an amazing experience. I mean its so beautiful here. You get to see waterfalls, the river down below, close up view of the chasm, and you get to float down the river on a raft with a tour guide. Even though the walk is 1 mile, you could be spending up to 2 hours or more for pictures. I highly suggest going in the morning to beat the crowds later in the day. There are other more physical activities you can do, but I think the classic tour is suitable for everyone of all ages. If my 75 year old parents can walk it, you can too."
"Such a remarkable place to see! If you go, you need to take the "Yellow" trail.! That will bring you down into the chasm. (Those are the pics you see) It is a bit more of a strenuous hike, but it's well worth it if you have the ability to do it. Lots of stairs and a few steep inclines. We did not traverse the ropes course, only because we didn't have the time. But if and when we go back, it will be something I will try. The "Green" trail is a very easy trail that only walks along the top if the chasm. Not much to see, hence no pictures... The fee is $20 per person to walk any trails you want. They do give free ticket to Veterans like myself, as well as a discount on the rest of the party. *You must show a VA card or ID. The wait was about 20 minutes to stand on line to wait to buy a ticket....strange, I guess. But it gives you an opportunity to browse through the shop and find some cool trinkets to bring home. I would definitely say do not pass by without taking a look at this place. You will not regret the experience, but you will regret having never seen it for yourself!"
