My recent experience with her began when I asked her to draft a pre-nuptial agreement between my husband-to-be, a Quebecer, and me, a US citizen. My husband's and my goal was to make it clear to all that my assets were to remain mine, in the event of death or divorce after our marriage, so that no one--especially my three sons--would suspect that this marriage was about my assets. Darby drafted a comprehensive and excellent agreement, which my husband was completely willing to sign. We then learned that pre-nups don't hold much weight given Quebec's division of marital assets laws. So, on Darby's advice, we turned in another direction, and drafted an irrevocable trust, placing the assets I identified into the trust, now held by my sons. This work required several meetings, my sons were present for some of them, and throughout, Darby listened carefully and produced the documents we needed to accomplish our goals.
