Reviews of Birds of Vermont Museum
"What a gem! Going here really gets you out into the Vermont woods, which are just starting to get beautiful fall color. The museum is small with a dedicated staff and an impressive collection. If you're a birder, you'd absolutely love this. But even if you're not, it's worth the $9 and a look around just to learn more about the guy who did them all. The feathers on the eagle are incredibly impressive! There are also trails around, behind the museum and across the street. They're all on the hilly side, but worth the effort for the time in the woods."
"Incredible museum and workshop. Staff is so friendly and the carvings are breathtaking. One of the most impressive small museums I’ve ever been to."
"This was something we found out about from a flyer at the hotel. It is a hidden gem. It was a little out of our way, but worth the trip if you are a fan of birds or wood carvings. These lifelike representations of the birds of Vermont were absolutely incredible. You also get a peak into the workshop and there is a nature walk. Definitely worth the trip."
"This place is INCREDIBLE! If you are looking for something interesting to do, you MUST visit the Birds of Vermont Museum. With hundreds of different bird carvings, creatively placed in beautiful habitat displays, this has to be one of the most unique and well-thought out nature museums we have ever visited!!! Most of it was masterfully created by a brilliant artist named Bob Spear, whose insane talent and dedication to birds/conservation will truly blow you away!! We learned so much and stayed for hours. For winter visits, be sure to email to make a personal appointment. Ours was last minute but we got a response right away because staff is super sweet and accommodating. Big shout out to Kir -- you were so welcoming and we loved talking to you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge of Bob's art with us. We cant wait to recommend this gem of a place to all our friends!!"
"What an absolute gem! As we were driving there in our tiny car, we wondered what we were going to find, because the place seemed a bit far from everything else, on a not exactly paved road. It was well worth the trip. Whether you are into bird watching or not, this place is a must-see. Amazing wood carving and you end up having to remind yourself that you are looking at wooden birds, not the real ones. We loved interacting with the people at the museum from the person who greeted and guided us, to the long-term museum member who shared her stories about Bob Spear with us. We also took a short hike on the trail, where there was the healthiest little freshwater pond with frogs and lillies (and apparently a new resident beaver!). There are longer hikes too, but we unfortunately had to hit the road. Highly recommend visiting this lovely natural history and arts museum!"
