Reviews of Masala Corner
"Masala Corner is a great place to get Indian food in the Rutland area. We came near the holidays on a quiet night and the service was good. My favorite dish was the fish curry, which had nice flavor and the salmon was perfect. The paratha was delicious, one of the better ones ive had at indian places. For the appetizers, both the samosas and onion bhajia were pretty standard. The mango lassi was standard as well, though the saffron lassi was nice. They also do sweet and salted lassi. The biryani was not the best ever but pretty good. The saag aloo was probably my least favorite—it didnt have the nice flavors of saag aloo dishes ive had in the past, and was strikingly shiny green. The chicken tikka was pretty decent, it was nice with the naan. The location and ambiance are enjoyable, and the service was good."
"I had a terrible dinner here, table was a mess when I first arrived. All of the dishes had black specks falling from the dirty ceiling. Do yourself a favor a look up next time you dine. That stuff is going in your food. Appetizers were cold in the middle, which tells me they were microwaved. Everything was salty and my glass of wine tasted like it was straight from the gas station, I left without taking a second sip. I went in looking for authentic Indian cuisine and genuinely disliked everything I ate. So no - I would not like a box for my left-overs."
"Looking for a local restaurant that could accommodate my particular Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) no oil eating habit, my daughter hit upon Masala Corner in the heart of downtown Rutland. It being a typical Rutland Saturday night, we had our choice of street parking and chose a convenient spot opposite the restaurant. Walking into the vacant establishment (it was 5pm and they had just opened), we were greeted cordially and shown to a high top in the dine-in section (see photo). After the waiter identified which dishes could be made WFPB and oil free, my daughter ordered the Fish Curry with a side of garlic naan bread, and I opted for the Broccoli Masala. The fish turned out to be a generous portion of salmon sunk in a pungent curry sauce, which my daughter said was delicious. My meal was delectable as well--I spooned it enthusiastically onto an ample bed of basmati rice--luscious looking broccoli florets, potato cubes, and tomato chunks. The vegetables were fresh and neither over nor under-cooked. A delicately flavorful seasoning bobbed to the surface to tickle my taste buds. We enjoyed our meal, the background music, and this welcoming slice of India on a downtown Rutland street corner. I look forward to a return visit to try the red lentil dish. (Fast forward several weeks): Having returned to Masala Corner with my other two daughters on separate occasions, I've since tried the chickpea and lentil dishes, and they were as superb as my first meal!"
"This is the best food in Rutland! It is always so hot and fresh even when you order takeout. I come here all the time and have never been disappointed. There is nothing around that compares to Masala Corner :)"
"While visiting my parents from out of state, my mom mentioned that there was a new Indian restaurant, knowing I love Indian food. I tried the spicy chicken tikka masala, the mild chicken biryani, the garlic naan, and the lentil pudding. It was hands down the most fantastic Indian food I've ever had. Portions were large, the chicken was extremely tender, the naan was soft yet with a lovely crisp, and everything was seasoned wonderfully. The staff was pleasant, and the overall experience made my day. I will definitely be coming back here and trying to bring friends with me."
