Reviews of Horse Hill Nature Preserve
"Great trails but sometimes confusing the way it was marked… lots of loops. Super buggy, would avoid during summer months. Might consider for snow shoeing since trails were wide and appeared fairly well used/flat."
"This place is really something special. From the parking lot encased in pine trees to the millions of lighting bugs at dusk and the curious Beavers that come just close enough to study you. I could spend hours here without a care in the world. But bring the bug spray."
"Today was my 2nd visit to Horse Hill. All Trails are very well marked however the reserve is large enough to require the use of maps, just in case. There is a good mixture of foot and bike traffic. Well behaved dogs were off leash. Good footwear is necessary for comfort and safety. Many low areas, possibility of mud and large puddles. Bugs just started to come out, wear and bring bug spry. Beautiful area, lots to see!"
"A perfect place to hike, bike and walk. Easy to get to. Large parking lot. Loop trail is well marked. Accessible in all 4 seasons. A nice beaver dam to view and more."
"A great variety of trails and none are very difficult. Permitted uses include hiking, biking, running, xc skiing, hunting, horseback riding and snowmobiling. Lastowska Pond has a large beaver home and lots of trees felled by beaver. The ponds are great places to bird watch including great blue heron. Pay attention as we nearly stepped on a gardener snake sunning itself on the trail. Once you get about a mile from Amherst Road parking lot you will not see many hikers but you will see mountain bikers especially on the twister trail. The main loop trail is well marked along the trail but some of the trails have intersections are not marked. Also know that while there is a trail under the powerlines Spaulding Foundation and Rocky Trail is nearly impassable. My biggest beef with this preserve is the frequency we had to hike around dog poop."
