Farrar Spring 351-505 Bog Road, Hillsborough, NH 03244

"I don’t know how this was named or who named this Farrar Spring. This spring was in the Buttrick family since the mid 1700’s until 2010. My grandfather Ronald Buttrick born in 1906 maintained the spring during the 1930’s for the town of Hillsborough so they could water their work horses while maintaining the road. In return the town accepted the use of the spring as payment for the property taxes. Before and after Ronald Buttrick passed I maintained the spring. During the winter when the road was plowed the wooden barrel was sometimes hit by the plow and destroyed. Someone would always put a plastic juice barrel back just to keep it going. I would always replace it with a new/used whiskey barrel. Unfortunately my uncle, David Buttrick had all the timber cut off and sold the 40 acre homestead to a developer. This was the end of the Buttrick 200+ year homestead. The small house and barn on top of the hill across from the Farrar Marsh Dam parking lot was where my grandfathers father Mark Buttrick lived. Mark Buttrick is buried in the Derring cemetery. Todd A. Buttrick"
