"UPDATE - I had to downgrade my original review from two stars to one star because I received an official letter saying that my state taxes were done incorrectly, and after several days of messages and phone calls (including one to the "business owner" customer service number in the reply to this review) the situation is still unresolved. This is two months after the first appointment I set up with my local H&R Block office. We normally do our own taxes, but they were complicated this year so we wanted to sit down with a professional and get everything sorted. The H&R Block online system does not interface well with their sit-down-in-the-office system (even though it needs to, because that’s how we gave them our info). The local offices seem to be understaffed to the point of dysfunction, and something that should have taken an hour in person took three and a half weeks of phone tag and online messages instead. After our initial (only) sit-down meeting, frontline office staff handed off our case to a senior tax pro. It took a week to find out who was now working with us (from an office 45 miles away). When we were finally contacted, it was via an automated text saying we had a phone appointment for a random time slot the next day (rather than scheduled around the availability of all involved parties). These communication difficulties resulted in our first round of results being highly inaccurate. Several more rounds later, our taxes are ALMOST resolved for this year. I can empathize with the staff, as I am sure this was no more fun for them than it was for us, and some of the complications that dragged out this process were not their fault. If you have to get your taxes done here, we hope that your taxes are simpler and that your experience will be better."
