About the Business

Woodward Point Preserve, located at 219 Woodward Point Road in Brunswick, Maine, is an 87.5-acre park that offers visitors the opportunity to explore its trails and observe wildlife in the beautiful northern Casco Bay area. Visitors can sign up for special maps with tips on where to go and what to look for, and themed activity maps for kids are also available.
The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust is working with Woodward Point Preserve to create a level, half-mile trail to ensure that visitors of all abilities can enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Construction on the trail is expected to be completed in the fall, and efforts are being made to make the preserve more accessible to all visitors.
The preserve, which was purchased by Maine Coast Heritage Trust in 2019, is one of the largest undeveloped parcels of land in northern Casco Bay and is surrounded by commercially important shellfish beds. The fields are home to a variety of wildlife, including a healthy population of bobolinks in the summer.
Visitors can enjoy a hand-carry boat launch for paddlecraft on the east side of the preserve, as well as access to other public preserves and recreation opportunities in the area. It is important to be aware of ticks and porcupines in the area and take precautions to protect yourself while exploring the preserve.
Overall, Woodward Point Preserve offers a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Casco Bay area and learn about the importance of conservation efforts in preserving this special place.
Reviews
"Beautiful natural environment for short hikes and outdoor exploring. Trails get wet easily and stay wet for days. Boots are recommended. Access to rocky point in Thomas cove. Access to mud flats in Thomas cove."
"Quiet and pastoral meadows, small woods, and nice views out to the sea. Better looks at high tide."
"Came here about 6pm. The birds were so active. Nice well markedcsnd groomed trails. We spent 90 minutes here"
"First understand this is a preserve, not a park. There is hunting in season and no bathrooms or picnic tables. What you do get is stunning views of the estuary and all the life it supports. Go at low tide for best shoreline exploring. (Or bring your kayak to the hand carry.) Trails are basically mowed grass and pretty flat. Private property is clearly marked and does not detract from the preserve. There are better places for a picnic with the kids but few better places to observe nature as it exists in land sea and air. I didn't see any porcupines but did use tick spray. It was a great outing."
"What a lovely spot this is, perfect for private walks or family outings. Lots of options to enjoy the fields, woods or the sea. Come April the place will be bursting with migrating birds. Congrats to the Brunswick Topsham Land Trust and the former landowners who worked to make this preserve a public treasure."
