"The directions only take you to private roads. No public access to stop and take pictures. Only access is to rent a boat or cabin on the water front."

"It's a very cool lighthouse! Supposedly the only freshwater lighthouse in Maine. Be careful when approaching with a motorboat, as there are many rocks, hence the need for the Lighthouse. If on a jetski or human powered boat, you can get right to the island. Definitely worth checking out if on the lake! Most of the towns surrounding the lake have public boat launches."

"I visit the Lighthouse each year by kayak on my annual trip to the lake. My family camp dates back to 1893 so we have a lot of family stories about the history of the light. Boats traveled north on the lake taking passengers to the dances at Island Park. There are public boat ramps on both ends of the lake, north end is closer to the Light."

"The Cobbosee Light House really can only be viewed by water. I suggest checking into a boat rental at Lakeside Marina in Winthrop Me. There is a state boat launch on Turtle Run Road in Winthrop as well as a state boat launch in Monmouth Me. From the Winthrop launch, the lighthouse is approximately 1 mile south on the lake and is visible as soon as you clear the cove from the launch. Definitely a must if you boat on Cobbosee Lake."
