"We were living in Augusta for 7 months for a travel nursing contract and took our dog to Mountain Dogs Daycare several times - this place was a godsend! Our dog is large, high strung, anxious, and has issues with resource guarding - so we utilized the private pen option (so thankful for this accommodation for dogs like ours, btw!!!). Shannon was amazing with our neurotic girl. She always took time to get her settled, play with her, and ensure she didn't get lonely despite the private pen situation. The facility setting is picturesque, the dogs have HUGE play areas, and they even offer group hikes. Shannon was also extremely accommodating when we had flight delays that impacted pick up or drop off times. I wish we didn't have to leave the area for work because I miss this place and the wonderful people who gave us such valuable peace of mind."
"My three dogs came home happy and tired after a three night stay. They needed a private room due to the fact our hound dog has severe anxiety issues that make it difficult for her to interact with dogs she doesn't know. It cost us more but it was so worth it for the three of them to be able to stay together in their own ROOM (not crate) and have their own fenced yard to play in."
"I researched doggy daycare before visiting the area and loved the look of Mountain Dogs. The reality met and exceeded my expectations! My dog loved the time she spent at Mountain Dogs ~ she was tired and so happy at the end of every day. I would highly recommend you send your pet there, for daycare or boarding. I can’t wait until we’re back in the area again so Sasha can be a Mountain Dog again!"
"We're so grateful to have found a non-corporate* local business that truly speaks DOG. Shannon, the owner, suggested we help acclimate our young dog to the pack experience by dropping her off for daytime visits before she began her first overnight boarding experience--FOR FREE. We did this for a whole week, increasing the length of time she was there each day. Our girl was very nervous at first. She gets along just fine with all dogs--and does off-leash walks every day--but she's a bit of an introvert and can be overwhelmed by a boisterous crowd. Shannon took note of when she needed breaks and brought our dog into her house, where she was happy to settle. (Again, our dog has a 3yo body but a real old lady vibe). End result: Our sweet family pet did just fine joining the pack and doing overnights. We are so grateful to have found a trusted spot with room to sniff and roam and be doggy as well as chill out! With three kids you just never know what kind of situation could come up last minute and it is AMAZING that our dog has a good place to go if need be. We're going to keep up with regular visits as we'll be boarding her there again in the future for sure. Shannon is so chill, welcoming, and easy to communicate with. If you have questions or special needs for your pup, just reach out to her. *the comment about finding a non-corporate place comes from a nightmare experience with a national chain: They returned our elderly dog to us with an injury so severe our vet said it could only have been caused by being hit by a car or crushed in a gate or door. And yet the facility had no explanation, wiped their video tapes, and after a lag during which I'm sure they spoke to their corporate lawyers basically invited us to sue them. Which we did not, because who wants to invite that kind of stress into their lives? But that experience soured us on large-scale operations. Shannon's facility is her home and it couldn't be more clear that she cares--no callous, corporate shenanigans here!"
"We have taken our dogs to daycare/boarding places between Freeport and Falmouth, and we have also had dogsitters, but Mountain Dogs has been the best of the bunch for our dogs. One of our labs enjoys their senior section where she can have a break from the younger dogs. It’s great they have space to accommodate this. Our labs bunk together in a private pen when they board and come home happy and healthy. Madison and the rest of the team are so friendly and helpful, and the owner Shannon is kind, attentive, and truly loves “the pack” at Mountain Dogs. You can trust that your dogs will be comfortable and well cared for here. Highly recommend!"
