"Very disappointing. My husband and I decided to have our taxes professionally done this year to make sure we were doing everything right, and for personal tax advice. Without writing a novel, I will say we were highly disappointed. Our taxes were supposed to take 3 weeks- it took 6 weeks and left us with only days to file (and to digest a surprise balance owed vs an expected return). He also pointed out that for some reason we underwithheld ~$13k, and didn’t elaborate, but said we should fix it before next tax season (at this point we were already a quarter into the new tax year). There was no recommendation or explanation as to why this happened. When I inquired further, he said he could help, for a $50 consult fee. His service claims to provide a “tax planner” with advice for following years. Our “tax planner” was simply our current numbers, repeated for five years. Clearly if we followed our “tax plan”, we’d have this problem over and over again. In regards to the “tax planner”, John never asked us about future changes to our tax picture (such as having another baby, selling our home, buying stock, etc). The tax planner was useless and non-applicable. I emailed him again expressing my disappointment, and never heard from him again.. and a couple days later he cashed our check. In summary: -did not stick to estimated time-frame, and did not communicate about any delays. -tax planner was useless -provided no insight into what we perceived as a major surprise tax issue we encountered - provided no planning services or recommendations -poor communication and careless business practice Would have been better off if I used TurboTax"
