"Sad to see the name change but HAPPY to see the original two guys I’ve worked with for over 10yrs still there. They bring customer service to a new level. Modern office with a home, comfy vibe because of the customer service. They truly value their customers."
"I wouldn’t even give one star. I have gone to Salem vision center since I was in elementary/middle school. They were one of my first eye doctors. My entire family went there. Dr. Onyon & Steve were always wonderful - I always went back yearly. Since the company has been bought out, it is nothing but horrendous. When I went for my 8 AM appointment, at 2 months postpartum (I made the appt this early on purpose), I waited over an HOUR to be seen and then was told to wait longer to be “checked out”. Machines didn’t even work so I’m shocked I was charged out of pocket. I did not leave until 10:30 from a routine eye appt. 2.5 hours with a 2 month old isn’t fun. Seems like they were not very organized. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt because I knew that the business had just been bought over and there’s a lot going on. I wish that I didn’t but sometimes I am too patient. Fast forward. I go to order my contacts. They told me that I would need to do a trial pair because the contact brand switched. Perfectly fine. I asked them to call me when they come in. One month later, they called me to tell me that my contacts came in. They basically told me that I would need to come in and wait so that the doctor could see me. I politely explain to them that I have a three month old (at that point) and will not be able to sit there for 2 1/2 hours again. The man on the phone basically told me there’s nothing that he can do because there are other patients.. so of course I become really agitated because all I’m trying to do is try on my contacts and make sure that they are good so that I can try them out long-term. I was also breast-feeding at the time so 2 1/2 hours is not a thing that new mothers can do on the fly. I waited about an hour for trial contacts to see if they fit my eyes. Again.. whatever. I gave them the benefit of the doubt again. Now I’m going to fast forward about one month later when I try to go order my new pair of Contacts and explain to the new people who run Salem Vision that my insurance pays for my contacts due to a medical condition. The woman basically told me that it wasn’t true, and that I was lying. She said if that was the case, then I changed my insurance. I’ve had the same insurance for five years. No coverage changes. I called my insurance to verify and I asked her to talk to the doctor. She told me that she would give a call back. Surprise. She never did. Then I played phone tag for one week to get these contacts ordered. I ended up finding some old contacts in my medicine cabinet and used those for a while as I was working really long hours and taking care of my children. As I started to run out of my old contacts, I tried to order them again. The lady again told me that I would need to pay $1K when I told her that my insurance covers my contacts because they are deemed medically necessary. She acted like I was stupid. For three months, the woman at the desk told me “I’ll call you back.” Never once did I receive a phone call back. it was like they knew they were playing a game with me. I’m telling you that I must’ve called over 30 times. Finally, after several phone calls, in the same day, I received a callback that my order went through insurance. Shocking. It only took eight months for me to get medically necessary contacts due to the lack of care and urgency on their end. The funny part is is that the voicemail was extremely unprofessional. It was very snarky, and passive aggressive. Not once have I ever raised my voice of them, or showing them how aggravated I was. If you are looking for a new eye doctor, do not try here, unless you want to wait hours on end for the first appointment of the day I need to have contacts or glasses to survive."
"I started going to Salem Vision Center a few years back with Dr. Onyon, and he was pleasant enough, but I never liked his staff at the front desk. They were always kind of rude, unpleasant or lacked character. I had no idea that it was under new ownership by MyEyeDr when I went to my check-up last Wednesday. I was pleasantly greeted by the front desk receptionist, who was very happy to assist me, and believe me, I was thrown off that someone was really nice this time! Next, I met Rachel who took me into the exam room. I was pleasantly surprised by her happy, vibrant personality, so unlike many visits over the past few years. I loved her instantly. Lastly, I met Dr. Ronald Coutu. What a doctor. He explained everything to me before he did something, and as he was examining my eyes, he explained what he was doing and what he was looking for. He had a sweet, calming demeanor about him. He was very informative and took the time to listen to me. I didn't feel rushed along like I had with Dr. Onyon in the past. Meeting Rachel, wow, then Dr. Coutu... Well, I fell in love again! I was fitted for glasses by another pleasant woman who was very down to earth, real, and genuine. That's when I found out that it was under new ownership! haha Well, then it all made perfect sense at that point. I can't say enough good things about the new ownership, staff and overall experience. Too many people take the time to write up bad experiences, rarely sharing the exceptionally good ones. I had to share my experience. I absolutely love them!"
"We loved Salem Vision when it was owned by Steve and Dr. Onyon - been going there for 7 years. Very disappointed with the fact that they cannot get my sons contacts, will not return our phone calls and didn't upload his prescription so I cannot even get them somewhere else. Also, staff wasn't terribly friendly/helpful while we were there. We like Dr. Onyon very much but sadly the business has suffered since they sold it."
